an important issue.

Antigone Essay Assignment: Final Draft Due: Thursday/Friday, May 8 and 9
Write an essay responding to the following prompt. Make sure that final drafts are typed, 12 point font,
and double spaced. Minimum Length 500 words.
Prompt: Why does Creon fail as a leader? What mistakes does he make? What leadership qualities does
he lack that are essential to maintaining leadership? Refer to and quote the text to support your ideas.
Include a strong thesis in the first paragraph.
Include all of the following:
Paragraph 1: Introduction and Thesis Statement
Thesis should state the main purpose or position of your essay along with the 3 most arguable reasons that
Creon fails as a leader. Example: Creon fails as a leader because he makes an unjust law, he defies the law
of the gods, and he is slow to realize his mistakes.
9 Body Paragraphs written in Context Claim Quote Commentary (CCQC) format:
Example: In scene 2 when Antigone addresses Creon (Context), she makes the point to Creon that he has
defied the law of the Gods (Claim). She states, “It was not God’s proclamation. That final justice that
rules the world below makes no such laws.(Quote)” Antigone reminds Creon that just because he is King
does not mean that he doesn’t have to follow the law of god. In burying Polyneices, she is honoring the
dead. She shows the proper respect to the Gods and justifies her actions in disobeying the law of a King.
Sophocles wants the reader to understand that Creon has placed himself above the Gods and is therefore
unjust (Commentary).
Conclusion Paragraph – Restate your main points. What have you concluded?
