ABOUT THE SOCIETY (www.ists.in)
Indian Society of Tree Scientists (ISTS) was established in the year 1981 at
College of Forestry, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan,
Himachal Pradesh. The objective of the society is to advance and spread the
knowledge of tree sciences in all aspects. It also aims to bring tree scientists,
professional foresters and all others interested in the activities of the Society under
common platform. The society is projecting the importance of trees in the overall
economy of the country and their role in maintaining the ecological balance in nature
through different means. It also provides technical knowhow to forest based
industries and to rural people for planting fodder, fuel, fibre, fruit and fast growing
trees in order to promote forest based industries in general and dairy industries in
particular. Indian Society of Tree Scientists is generating awareness on forest,
agroforestry, environment and other allied activities by publishing a journal and
holding meetings, symposia, memorial lectures etc. The present International
conference is one such effort of ISTS to bring together researchers, administrator
and stake holders in sustainable resource management vis-a-vis climate and social
security.
