School Uniforms Persuasive Paper
The debate over whether or not uniforms should be required at Antilles School has been
going on for years. In recent months, the debate has continued to heat up. The
administration of our school has asked for your opinion on the matter, and this is your
opportunity to voice that opinion and persuade them to go along with your argument.

Introduction



Topic Sentence: This should be a statement of position. It must be clear and
distinct.
Use a quotation, narrative example, factual example, a definition of a key term or
a question to hook the reader
State your three best reasons that you have to support your position. These
reasons will become the topic of each of the three supporting paragraphs.
Body





This is where you will give specific evidence, examples and statistics to support
your reasons. Try to avoid using broad generalizations or personal opinions to
persuade the reader that the stated position is a valid one.
The beginning of each body paragraph will restate a reason for your argument
stated in the introductory paragraph.
This will be followed by supporting information in the sentences to follow.
Repeat this process for each of the three supporting paragraphs.
Be sure to use proper transitions between paragraphs. This will make your essay
easier to read.
Conclusion

In your conclusion, redefine the topic and restate the most convincing information
you talked about in the body of your essay.

Career Finder Report Requirements
So, what do want to do when you grow up? You still have many years until you need to
decide what you want to do for a career. However, in The Giver children are given their
employment “assignment” for the rest of their lives. So, let’s take a survey that will tell
you what kind of job you might be good at when you grow up.
Gathering Information:

Go to the career interest quiz on the site listed below.

Take the survey:
 Just check the box next to any of the activities that you like to do and submit the
survey.
 Your answers are analyzed and fit into two of the six work groups (Realistic,
Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising or Conventional).
 After you submit your results, you will be given a list of work groups you fit into.
You can click on the bullet pointed categories to see specific jobs, or as they
would say in The Giver “assignments”, that you might enjoy.
 Print out one or two of the category results and one or two highlighted specific
job descriptions that interest you.
Report Requirements:
Introduction:



Introduce the story of The Giver. Explain what the story of The Giver is
about.
Using the information in chapter seven, include a description of how jobs
are “assigned” to individuals in the community.
Explain how choosing jobs in our community is different then in The
Giver.
Body:

Using the information you printed from the internet to describe what kind
of work you would be good at. Use the description of your work group
listed above the specific types of jobs.

Pick two specific jobs listed and either printout the description given or
research that job using Google.com, and print the information out there.
Conclusion:


Explain which of the two jobs listed for you, you think would be best for
you. Give specific reasons why.
If you desire, you may mention another job you think you would enjoy
doing that wasn’t listed, and give specific reasons why you would be good
at it.
