The Task:
You are challenged to create a powerpoint presentation that reflects the
major events of the 1920s & 30s. Your presentation must include both
audio/visual & written components. It should reflect the “up’s and down’s”
that people experienced while living at this time. You will present your
completed powerpoint to the class by the due date.
Requirements:
Your presentation must include slides of information that focus on each of
the following areas:
1. News- important events that affected Canadians. You must have at
least 3 news stories in your presentation. Here are some ideas:
 Stock market crash
 Great Depression
 Persons Case
 On-to-Ottawa Trek
 Prohibition/Bootlegging
 Relief Camps
 Unions
2. Entertainment- music, movies, art, literature, celebrities, etc. You
must have at least 3 different examples in your presentation. Here
are some ideas:
 George Gershwin, Louis Armstrong, Jazz, Charleston, Duke
Ellington, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald
 Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Fred
Astaire
 Flappers, Speakeasy
3. Sports- Famous sports moments, athletes & popular sporting events.
You must have at least 3 separate examples in your presentation.
Here are some ideas:
 Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Seabiscuit, Edmonton Grads, Knute
Rockne, Olympics, Foster Hewitt
4. Fashion- an overview of how people dressed, what was fashionable for
men and women and what trends people followed.
5. Inventions- Focus on new products and technology introduced during
this time period that influenced society. You must have at least 3
examples in your presentation. Here are some ideas:
 Automobile, Penicillin, Insulin, Radio, Telephone, Electric
Appliances, etc.
Evaluation:

-Group demonstrates a strong understanding of the
events during the time period studied.
