Happy Winter Break!
Directions: Your Thanksgiving break HW has two components. Enjoy the welldeserved relaxation, but also remember that your brain is a muscle and you must “use
it or lose it!”
 Part I: Read: Questions and “So Basically”
 Part II – Write a coming of age story.
1
Part I: Reading
Write at least ONE questions and ONE “so basically” for each chapter.
a. Your questions can either be clarifying or probing.
i. Clarifying questions are about issues you are confused about in the
text.
ii. Probing questions are deeper questions, often “why” questions that are
open-ended and push the reader deeper into the text. They are great
discussion questions.
b. Your “So Basically” should be a statement about character or plot
development.

Part II: Your Coming of Age Story
Directions: We have had many discussion about what it means to come of age,
especially what that looks like for Scout and Jem. Now, it is your turn to share with us
your own coming of age story. The expectation is for you to use Harper Lee’s
writing style of point of view to share your story. In writing your story, make
sure you address these two parts:

Write your coming of age story from your own point of view
o This should be in the first person

Focus on a challenge you want develop throughout your story that shows growth
o Example: In the beginning of the story, Mr. Baeza is shy and quiet, and by
the end of his story, he experiences a coming-of-age-moment that
shows he has become confident and out-going.
