Expository Essay
“The Greatest Invention”
Have you ever wondered to yourself as to what you think the
greatest invention was? Well, I have, and I think that the
greatest invention ever made is the book. A book may be used for
many purposes. One purpose for the book is to read it for
entertainment. Another purpose to read a book is for research.
The last, but not least reason to read a book is for educational
purposes. I read books all of the time, and I hope that you do
too!
The first purpose for reading a book is for entertainment.
An example of a book used for entertainment is a comic book;
however, that is not the only type of book that people enjoy.
Another type of book is a novel. In addition to a novel, some
people like to read science fiction; however, I prefer to read
along the lines of a thorough novel or fiction book myself. To
conclude, many people including me like to read a book for
entertainment.
The second purpose for reading a book is for research. For
example, you may have to do a report on a certain person in
history, so you would choose a biography or an autobiography on
that particular person. Another example for using a book for
research is if you have to do a timeline on WWII; thus you would
most likely use your textbook. A final example of using a book
for research is if you need to do a project on a particular time,
of which you were born, you would use textbooks or an
encyclopedia. In conclusion, there are many ways to use a book
for research purposes.
The last purpose (but certainly not the least) of a book is
for educational purposes. For example, when your teacher is
teaching you something; therefore you would use your textbook.
Another example is when you need to do a report to share with the
class; you would use a textbook or an encyclopedia. The last
example is when your teacher gives you an assignment out of the
textbook; you would most likely use your textbook.
The best invention to me is the book because I read all
types all of the time, and I am sure you do too. One purpose for
a book is for entertainment. Another purpose for a book is for
research. The last purpose that I stated for a book was for
educational purposes. I hope that I have convinced you that books
are a very important invention. I also hope that you have taken
into consideration that the book may be the most important
invention ever.
