Critique Writing Rubric
Tech Theatre
Directions:
 Each critique should be written based on the performance specified in
your syllabus.
 Critique format is 5 paragraph written essays. They must be typed.
 Critiques are not accepted Late; if you are absent on due date you need to
turn it in first day when you arrive back at school, no later.
 Use the following writing guide and point breakdown to write your paper.
Critique Structure:
Paragraph #1

 Introduction Statement
 “Catch” Sentence
 Thesis: “what paper is about”

 Summary of performance viewed.
 Actor’s Names & character roles
 Summary of Plot/Story: Beginning, climax, & end

 Critical statements about acting quality:
 2 things you liked & 2 you didn’t like.

 Technical Analysis
 Identify aspects from each of the 5 tech areas:
o Lighting, Scenery, Props, Sound, & Costumes.
 What where they?
 Where they effective? Why or Why not?

 Closing: Summary of paper statement.
 Your over all opinion of performance, likes and dislikes.
