Teaching Materials on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Target Students: F.2 Band 2
Title:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Director:
Tim Burton
Language:
English
Synopsis:
Willy Wonka, a genius candy maker, is the owner of a Chocolate Factory. He wants to invite 5 children to
visit his factory. Therefore, he sends out 5 golden tickets which he hides randomly under the Wonka Bar
(Chocolate bar). Children who have the golden tickets can visit the factory. Augustus Gloop, Violet
Beauregarde, Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee and Charlie Bucket are so lucky that they get the tickets to enter
the factory. They see how candies are made inside the factory. However, each of them has different
experience there. Only the one is left in the end of the journey…
Rationale:
This movie is chosen because the characterization is very distinct. It is easier for students to analyze each
character and develop different tasks afterwards. Also, the movie is suitable for the students of the junior
form. It is colourful and easy to follow which motivate students to engage in the film. They can learn about
different personalities and how a lovable person should behave. Moreover, candies can appeal to both adults
and children. One of the tasks in this unit plan is developed from candies. Students are able to further
develop the topic by designing their own candy and sell it to the class which is closely linked to the theme of
the film.

Worksheet 2
This is a Notice written by Mr. Willy Wonka. Can you guess the personality and characteristics of Mr. Willy
Wonka by reading the tone and content? Try to write down as many adjectives as you can to describe him.
You can write about his appearance, personality and characteristics.
EVENING BULLETIN
Mr Willy Wonka, the confectionary genius
whom nobody has seen for the last ten years,
sent out the following notice today:
I, Willy Wonka, have decided to allow five children –just five, mind you, and
no more – to visit my factory this year. These lucky five will be shown
around personally by me, and they will be allowed to see all the secrets and
the magic of my factory. Then, at the end of the tour, as a special present, all
of them will be given enough chocolates and sweets to last them for the rest
of their lives! So watch out for the Golden Tickets! Five Golden Tickets have
been printed on golden paper, and these five Golden Tickets have been
hidden underneath the ordinary wrapping paper of five ordinary bars of
chocolate. These five chocolate bars may be anywhere – in any shop in any
street in any town in any country in the world – upon any counter where
Wonka’s Sweets are sold. And the five lucky finders of these five Golden
Tickets are the only ones who will be allowed to visit my factory and see
what it’s like now inside! Good luck to you all, and happy hunting!
