The Great Gatsby – Gatsby’s Dream
Creation of the Dream
Locate passages below and, in a sentence or two, relate each to Gatsby’s
dream.
1. Chapter 5 – the paragraph beginning, “He hadn’t once ceased looking at
Daisy…”
2. Chapter 5 – “If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home…” and the
following paragraph.
3. Chapter 6 – the paragraph beginning, “I supposed he’d had the name
ready for a long time…”
4. Chapter 6 – the paragraph beginning, “He wanted nothing less of Daisy
than she should go to Tom…” to the end of the chapter.
Shattering of the Dream
1. Chapter 8 has examples, especially in the second half of the chapter, of
the result of Gatsby’s dream. Find examples and explain each briefly.
2. Chapter 9 also has evidence about the outcome of Gatsby’s dream in the
last five paragraphs. Select significant passages and comment.
