Optional Macbeth Project for English IV
Due Date: Monday, March 2 (A) or Tuesday, March 3 (B)
Directions: Choose one of the following activities related to Macbeth. This project is
not required but will count as a replacement grade for any test relating to Macbeth. If
your test grades are good, the project can replace two daily grades. However, this grade
will not substitute for an essay. The grade for this project will be based on creativity,
effort, and understanding of the play.
1. In class, dramatize a scene from the play. You must memorize your lines and
communicate the words effectively. Dress as your character would and have any
necessary props. You may work with other people, or you may deliver a
soliloquy---other than Macbeth’s soliloquy in Act V. Each person must have at
least fourteen lines.
2. Prepare a video of a longer scene—or two small scenes—from the play. Each
person’s part must be at least thirty lines long. No evidence of reading the lines
should be seen. Dress as your character would and have any necessary props. A
cast of characters and the selected scene(s) must appear on the video; also,
appropriate sound effects and mood music should be utilized.
3. Select and depict twelve to sixteen scenes from the play for a multiple-panel quilt.
Make each panel out of paper. For each panel of you quilt, create an illustration
and write a caption that explains it. Create a border for each panel and tie or
string them together using clothesline or heavy string to form a large wall
hanging.
4. Write an original song about the tragedy of Macbeth. Give specific details from
each Act. Perform it for the class. (Music and a good voice are required for this
one.)
5. Create an illustrated children’s book based upon Macbeth.
Note: All artwork must be original.
