YOUTH HUNTING PROGRAM
April 14, 15 & 16, 2016 - El Dorado, Kansas.
In 2002, realizing the need for and the importance of preserving hunting heritage through the event, a youth
program was established with the Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt, held in Butler County, with El
Dorado being the host city. Each year, six youth from around the state of Kansas are selected to participate in
the hunt as a “Youth Celebrity”. Youth participants in this hunt MUST meet ALL of the following
requirements to be considered for selection.

Be a resident of the state of Kansas.
Have successfully completed a state hunter education course.
Be between the ages of 12 and 18.
Be accompanied by a parent or an adult guardian (with the exception during the time that they will
be hunting with a guide).
5. ATTEND all events associated with the hunt. NO EXCEPTIONS!
6. Complete and submit the attached application form, essay, and photo by January 8, 2016.
Six participants will be chosen by the Youth Selection Committee. As you fill out the application, keep in mind
we are looking for ALL LEVELS of experience.
If you are chosen, you will be considered a youth hunter and will not be in competition for the Top Gun award.
Each youth hunter and their parent/guardian will be REQUIRED to sign a waiver of liability provided by the
hunt. Applicants may contact the Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt office during business hours of
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 316-321-3835 with any questions concerning the youth program or other programs that
are associated with the hunt.
The Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt will provide the following:
a. Permits and licenses required to hunt in the State of Kansas
b. Hotel accommodations in El Dorado, Kansas
c. A guide and private hunting ground for each selected youth hunter
d. Tickets and passes to all the events for parent/guardian and youth
e. Special section in the Program to identify Youth Hunting Program
f. Volunteer opportunities during future hunts
Any Kansas youth who meets the eligibility requirements is encouraged to apply for participation in the hunt.
This is a great opportunity to experience turkey hunting at its finest and to experience the hospitality of the great
folks in Butler County and El Dorado who plan the hunt each year. The Kansas Governor’s Annual One Shot
Turkey Hunt has become recognized throughout the United States as one of the finest hunts in the nation. The
2016 Hunt is being held on April 14, 15 & 16, 2016.
