Sex and Religion: Is “Living in Sin” Really a Sin?

The essay begins by defining fornication according to the Christian bible. Sex within the
sanctity of marriage and sexual deviancy are defined as well. The Christian bible lays out
very clear laws about what is acceptable sexual behavior and what is not. The bible’s
estimated date of origin is 1445 B.C. These have not changed, for example a verse in the
book of Leviticus 15:18 it says “After have sexual intercourse, both the man and woman
must bathe and they will remain defiled until evening.” These laws have not changed;
however, the laws of the land have. The ideal of the time that the bible was written are
much different that the ideals of today. Are the laws of the Christian bible relevant to
society three and a half centuries later? The opinions of Christian women and men will
be evaluated as well as those of the elderly.
