Library Research for The Crucible: This play is based on the real events of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692.
You need to be familiar with these events before we begin to read the play by Arthur Miller.
1) First visit this website to watch a short video about the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 and to learn a
bit more about the Salem Witch Trials. List ten facts about the Salem Witch Trials after
reading through the website.

This website is interactive. You become a witch wrongly accused of witchcraft and have the
opportunity to understand what it was like for people in 1692. Follow the entire journey from your
accusation to the trial to your end, whatever that may be depending on your choices.

Then, write a diary entry that is at least 1/2 – 1 page long. You have been accused of being a
witch, and you only have your diary to write in to tell about your experiences. Based on what you
learned from the website, pretend you are an accused person and tell about your experiences. Use
vivid details to recreate the fear and hysteria of the witch trials. Try to place the reader in your
shoes!
