Lord of the Flies Symbolism Project
Symbols abound in William Golding’s allegorical novel, Lord of the Flies. Choose one symbol
(either a person or an object), follow its development throughout the entire book, and come to a
conclusion about its meaning. Illustrate your object prominently on the visual (half a poster board), and
clearly express your interpretation of the meaning in both words and pictures. Include at least three
quotes (with page #s) that helped to lead you to this conclusion/interpretation. You might consider using
one or more of the following techniques: collage, drawing, painting, cartoons, computer-generated
images, etc. The project will be graded using the following guidelines and will count 1 TEST grade :

Has a clear title that reflects the symbol.
It includes eye-catching illustrations that are relevant to the topic and are creative.
The visual is colorful and exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness.
It contains a minimum of 3 quotes that supports the symbol’s deeper meaning.
It is the product of obvious care, hard work, and thoughtfulness.
Has proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
