SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURES
2013 - 2014
The following scholarships are available:
Denise Alvarez Scholarship: Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors may apply who exhibit
caring, school spirit and involvement. Please use non-weighted GPA.
Lt. James H. Love Scholarship: Current Juniors who are a student-athlete with at least a nonweighted 3.0 GPA and who participates in at least two sports.
Alumni Association Scholarship: Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors may apply who have
an immediate family member who is a graduate of Spalding. Candidates must possess a minimum
2.5 non-weighted GPA. Students must also show evidence of community service to the school,
which includes participation in clubs and activities, or other volunteer work to the school.
Good Samaritan Scholarship: Current Juniors may apply who demonstrate with their actions a
heartfelt understanding of the fundamental Christian principle calling us to love of neighbor as
reflected in John 15: 11 – 17. Please use non-weighted GPA.
Kevin Durm Scholarship: Kevin Durm’s (’07) life was tragically ended by a drunk driver. Kevin
was a musician, athlete, and a good friend. Current Juniors may apply who possess a non-weighted
GPA of 3.50 or higher, exemplary behavior, loyalty and love for music, with a zest for life and who
is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Coach Mike Whittles Scholarship: The Coach Whittles Scholarship will be awarded to a rising
senior who demonstrates integrity, character, compassion for others, a love for and commitment to
Archbishop Spalding and a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average. The recipient must be a varsity
athlete but not reserved to a football player since Coach Whittles supported all of the school’s
athletic programs. If you are a rising senior and interested in applying for the Coach Whittles
Scholarship, here are items to check prior to submitting a one –page essay on the question below.
o Have I demonstrated a commitment to Archbishop Spalding High School through service to
the school as a student?
o Do I have a discipline record that reflects Coach Whittles’ character and integrity?
o Do I have a minimum grade point average (gpa) of a 2.5?
o If you have answered yes to the above questions, explain in a one-page essay why you are
the best candidate for this scholarship. Include how Coach Whittles’ spirit has made
Spalding a better community.
All scholarship applications are due in the President’s Office by
Friday, December 6, 2013.
