1) Open Adobe Photoshop CS5. Open the image to be rounded. Before beginning, make sure the photo is sized properly for the Web. (It should NOT be the original large file size as taken with a digital camera.)

2) Double click the Background layer in the Layers palette (to create an editable version of the photo). A New
Layer dialogue box will open. The default name for the new layer is Layer 0. Click OK.
3) Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool near the bottom of the left toolbar.
On the options toolbar at the top, make sure the Paths tool is active and the Radius is set to 10 px.

4) Click in the upper left corner of the photo and drag the mouse to the bottom right to make a rounded selection.
Next, click the Path Selection Tool on the left toolbar (just above the rounded rectangle tool).

5) Now it is time to hide the area outside the new rounded rectangle path by adding a layer mask to the photo.
Right click the mouse in a part of the photo outside the rounded selection (marked by the rounded rectangle).
On the popup menu, choose Create vector mask.
Alternatively, you may click the photo layer to select it and add a vector layer mask by Ctrl clicking the small circle within a square icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

6) The photo is now rounded and ready to save for the web. Notice the new layer mask in the layers palette and the gray and white checkered background (representative of a transparent background).

7) From the menu, choose File/Save for Web & Devices.
On the Save for Web dialog box, choose the JPEG file format if saving a photo. For the Internet, a quality setting of High works well. Click the Save button and name the image.
That’s all there is to rounding the corners of photos using Photoshop CS5.
