Welcome back! I hope you are safe and sound after our long winter holidays. I do
know you are ready to work hard of course.
This time you will have to deal with some idiomatic phrases and colloquialisms.
Ready, steady, go!
TASK ONE
Explain the following colloquialisms and idiomatic phrases.
a) red herring
b) vulgar fraction
c) bad hair day
d) sick abed on two chairs
e) driver’s arm
f) couching distance
g) Kodak courage
h) No dice!
i) to check one’s vitals
j) to leech
k) to talk shop
l) neither fish nor fowl
m) leopard can't change its spots
n) culture vulture
TASK TWO
Once you know and understand these words and phrases, please write a short story
with all of them. ‘The order of appearance’ is absolutely unimportant. Remember
about the title for your story.
When these two easy ;o) tasks are done, they should be handed in to Kinga Cierluk.
