About Me
(Order of Operations Project)
Hello Fellow Mathematicians!
My name is Sally, and I am the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally (P.E.M.D.A.S) Corporation. My assistant's
name is Mr. Bracket, and he has been busy researching the best math whiz I can hire. Congratulations you were chosen! We are in your town
and we want to hire you to help us educate your principal Mrs. Coy, about our company. Our company uses order of operations
as a code to solve problems. I need you to complete a major task before your interview.
During your interview you will be required to present a product that represents you by using numerical expressions. Your numerical expressions
have limits. Mr. Bracket and I want to solve your numerical expressions by using PEMDAS. Each numerical expression you create will
represent something about
you! Please see the details below:
STEP 1: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS BELOW YOU WANT TO CREATE.
(1) POSTER
(2) POWERPOINT
(3) GAME
(4) CREATE YOUR OWN (create your own product you want to present)
STEP 2: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY; REMEMBER I WANT TO HIRE YOU.
(1) YOUR NAME
(Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent the number of letters in your first name)
Example: JANET (this name has five letters; your value (answer) should equal 5)
5 x [(6 + 3) - (8 X 1)] = 5 (example cannot be used in your project)
(2) MONTH YOU WERE BORN
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent the month you were born) INCLUDE AN EXPONENT IN THIS NUMERICAL
EXPRESSION (base MUST be 10).
EXAMPLE:
If you were born in MAY write a numerical expression with the value of 5 since this is the 5th month of the year.
[(10 x 10) - 85] - 101 = 5 (example cannot be used in your project)
(3) FAMILY MEMBERS
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent the number of family members
you have living in your home. ) INCLUDE AN EXPONENT IN THIS NUMERICAL EXPRESSION (base must be another number other than 10).
(4). SHOE SIZE
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent the size shoe you wear. YOU MUST USE BRACKETS [ ] in your numerical
expression.
(5) YOUR AGE
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent how old you are.
(6) YOUR FAVORITE
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent your favorite season. Your
value (answer) should equal the number of letters in your favorite season.
(7) FAVORITE HOLIDAY
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent your favorite holiday. Your value (answer) should equal the number of letters in your
favorite holiday.
(8) CREATE YOUR OWN
Write a numerical expression (using PEMDAS) to represent something unique and special about you.
EXAMPLE: If you play a sport, cheer, model, dance, like to read, cook, play video games, love Star Wars, etc create a problem that equals the
number of letters of what you like to do.
You will present this project to the CEO, your teacher, and Mr. Bracket. We look forward to seeing you on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1015,
to present your project. Remember promptness is always the key to getting hired. LATE PROJECTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Sincerely,
Sally
P.S. Your teacher wants you to know THIS IS A MATH GRADE! Happy creations! LOOK ON THE BACK TO SEE HOW YOU WILL BE
GRADED.
