Psychological Therapies Manager
Role Summary:
To work within the IAPT service providing a range of evidence based low intensity
interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety disorders and depression. In
addition the post-holder will undertake weekly telephone triage duties for the wider
service.
The post-holder will work with people from diverse backgrounds and should be
committed to equal opportunities. They will be called upon to work in different
community settings and must be prepared to be flexible in their working arrangements.
Main duties and responsibilities:
CLINICAL

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service and develop programmes of
care packages.

Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the selfmanagement of their recovery.

Undertake assessments on suitability of new referrals, adhering to BWW’s referral
protocols, allocating suitable clients to the relevant care pathway within the service
and referring unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referring
agent as appropriate.

Undertake client-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to
see change and/or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and
others.

Provide a range of information and support for evidence-based high volume lowintensity psychological treatments. This includes guided self-help, computerised CBT,
group interventions and information about pharmacological treatments. This work
may be face to face, on the telephone or via other media.

Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.

Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts
offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times
and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

Where appropriate attend multi-disciplinary meetings in relation to referrals or clients
in treatment.

Complete all requirements relating to data collection within BWW.

Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and use
these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision making.

Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and
step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall
therapy process, and where appropriate refer for specialist employment support.

Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and
recognises and respects diversity.

Prepare and present clinical information for all clients on their caseload to clinical
case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis,
in order to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the
worker, supervisors and service are delivered.

Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical
practice.

Engage in and respond to clinical skills supervision to improve competences and
clinical practice.

Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.

Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to British Association for
Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy Code of Ethics and Conduct

Be aware of, and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment of
common mental illness.

Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with supervisor on a
regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

Keep up to date all records in relation to professional development and ensure
personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest
theoretical and service delivery models/ developments.

Attend relevant conferences/ workshops in line with identified professional
objectives.

Contribute to the development of evidence-based best practice within the service,
and where appropriate to service development in response to identified needs.

Apply for PWP Accreditation.
GENERAL

Keep accurate and appropriate records, providing information for monitoring and
evaluation as required.

Participate in and actively contribute to individual supervision, training and team
meetings as required.

Work in accordance with Bromley & Lewisham Mind’s Aims, Objectives and Values.

Comply with all organisational polices and procedures, and in particular to ensure
safe, fair and responsible working practices through implementation of Bromley &

Undertake duties in such a manner to ensure the health and safety of post-holder,

Work flexibly, being prepared to perform other duties commensurate with the role.

of your day to day duties.




Ensure compliance with National Mind’s ‘Mind Quality Management’

Work alongside and ensure active service user and carer participation in all aspects
of work, including design, implementation and monitoring of activities.

Work in line with Bromley & Lewisham Mind’s codes of practice and maintaining
good relationships internally and externally.
