STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts
60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing
All WEDNESDAY MARKETS are RED/SLAUGHTER ONLY MARKETS
FEEDING COWS, STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held
on SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st
January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

A sudden lift in trade towards the end of the week saw Newark coming out on top of the
SQQs. Not really enough lambs for the demand. Let’s hope trade has levelled and we will
see more next week.

Young Bulls - 167 averaged 182.09p
Another excellent entry on offer today met a very similar sort of trade with nice meated
bulls up to 700kgs reasonably well sold, however big heavy bulls and particularly rougher
bred sorts more difficult to place.
Top bull today was consigned by Roger Hazard and Sons who sold Limousins to 247.5p £1440.41, Robert Holmes sold Blondes to 238.5p - £1380.92, George and David Holling sold
Limousins to 234.5p - £1425.76 and 233.5p - £1319.28.
Top grossing bulls today were consigned by Craig Paddock who sold Charolais to £1583.86
and £1530.90 and John Holmes sold Limousins to £1515.85.
Today E graded bulls 230p plus with U+’s 223-229p, -U grades 214-222p and R grades
200-209p, O+’s sold from 186-196p, better finished Friesians sold from 167-177p, plainer
Holsteins with meat sold from 156-164p and plainer sorts 144-154p and very plain sorts

CULL COWS AND OTMS – 62 averaged 140.94p or £983.76
The smallest entry seen in Newark for years today as many producers hold off selling cows
in hope of seeing some sort of improvement.
Trade today was marginally better although still nothing like as good as it should be.
Top priced cow today was sold by Richard Hall, Boston who sold Limousins to 149.5p £1049.49, Robin Smith, Melton Mowbray sold Bazadaise to 145.5p - £995.22, Messrs Tower
Farm Livestock sold Limousins to 140.5p - £1020.03. Bob Holmes sold Limousins to 141.5p £1007.48.
Wally and Josie McCurdie sold South Devons to £1197.99.
Today the best meated cows 130p plus with older and plainers sucklers 110-126p and real
plain sorts 90-110p.
Again black and whites were well sold in comparison with better meated Holsteins
114-119p, plainer sorts 105-110p and very plain Holsteins 85-95p.
Over thirty month clean cattle were again a reasonable trade with steers from Dick Aldridge
selling to 212.5p - £1489.63 for Limousins.
John Mower also sold Limousin steers to 204.5p - £1537.84.
Malcolm Arnold sold Limousin heifers to 207.5p - £1164.08 and Charolais to 201.5p £1162.66.
Stock Bulls were also a better trade with Alan Twell selling Limousins to 123.5p - £1050.99

Less about today and very little top end quality.
Trade today was very similar on the week with the better end and meated cattle well sold.
Rougher bred cattle and great big heavy sorts more difficult to place but saying that black
and whites were very well sold.
Top steer today was consigned by Stan Evans who sold Limousins to 225.5p - £1222.21.
Brain Cummings and Limousins to 221.5p (twice) - £1399.28 and £1342.29 at the same
money Simon Robinson also sold Limousins to gross £1231.54, Robert Manchester sold
Limousins to 220.5p - £1345.05.
Top grossing steer today was consigned by David and Louise Todd who sold Limousins to
£1633.42.
Today U+ grades 220p plus with –U grades 210-218p and R grades 200-209p with O+’s
190-199p.
Fed Holsteins 160-170p with plainer sorts 150-160p.

Top grossing heifer today was a magnificent 749kgs Blue from Graham Mason which
grossed £1793.86.

Only sows and boars forward apart from a pen of Gloucester pigs which found less demand
and would have sold better on a Saturday for further feeding.
However a nice entry of sows sold to 72p per kg to average 71p per kg and boars averaged
55p per kg.
