Key Skills:
Research experience with Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine - CD34+ stem cells
expansion and transformation using various factors to establish inner hair cells for the
cure of deafness in rodent model study.
Experience in handling small rodents like rats and mice
Research experience with Autoimmune Disease like Arthritis, Alzheimer’s
Research experience with Lipid Biochemistry, Drug Discovery and Pre-Clinical
Research experience with Piezoelectricity Research on Deafness
& P.G. level teaching with Life Science subjects
Training in Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine Research:
Training Programme on Regenerative Medicine (TPRM) for clinical stem cell
research from University of Toronto, Canada at Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative
Medicine, NCRM-Japan (Chennai Centre).
Research Projects Handled:
Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine application for the cure for deafness. This research
project involves isolation of inner hair cells from rats and subsequently isolation, purification
and expansion of hematopoietic stem cells from rodents and further transformation using
transforming factors like neuro-growth factors (Glial cell-line Derived Neurotrophic Factor).
This was further under application for everlasting implantation for inner hair cells
transformation for the cure of deafness.
Study on the piezoelectric property of the middle ear bones. This research project
involves isolation of middle ear bones viz., malleus, incus and stapes. Using various
laboratory techniques like transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy,
X-ray diffraction techniques, Mass Spectrometry and Raman spectra studies, the
piezoelectric behavior on how the transforming wave to become converted to understand
sound or voice. The laboratory facility is provided by Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic
Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam.
This project proposal was submitted to Science and
Engineering Research Council, DST-India.
Drug Discovery - Neuro-Degenerative Disease-Rodent model study at Central Leather
Research Institute, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Chennai. This ICMR project
involves, synthesis of alpha crystalline (alphaB-crystallin) as small heat shock proteins
(sHSP) from E. coli bacteria and tested against neuro-inflammation induced in rats for novel
drug discovery on Alzheimer's disease.
Lipid Research- Rodent model study, Department of Zoology, Government Arts
College, University of Madras, Chennai, India. This project is funded by UGC, India. The
research project involves studies on the prevention of bad cholesterol by taking gingili oil in
food. The gingili oil goodness with cholesterol metabolism was studied using small rodent
viz., rats.
