FOR IMMEDIATE USE [26/08/15]
PRESS RELEASE
A Space a Second Booked in the first
half hour for Glasgow Doors Open Day!
A space a second: Glasgow Doors Open Day reached new records today. Within half an hour of opening their booking
system 1,800 spaces had been booked across the 57 bookable buildings & events – that’s a space a second! And proves just
how popular the event has become!
Bookings opened at 10am: Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, the organisers of Glasgow Doors Open Day, knew how
popular the event was going to be this year following a huge number of requests for brochures and a 25% increase in visits
to the website. The small team of staff and volunteers took a huge volume of calls from 10am today whilst many other
people visited www.glasgowdoorsopenday.com to book. Within half an hour of opening 1,800 spaces had been booked
across the 57 bookable buildings & events – that’s a space a second! Within the first four hours the total number booked
reached 3,000 spaces! And within just 3 minutes Glasgow Central Station tours were fully booked!
Still spaces left: Although a number of spaces have been booked already there are still spaces on a number of the events.
You can find these here: http://glasgowdoorsopenday.com/programme/booking/ Additionally over two thirds of the
programme doesn’t require booking at all!
QUOTES
Ruth Morris, Events and Development Coordinator at Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, said:
“I just want to say a massive than you to all of our volunteers who have helped us get to this point by updating our websites,
distributing our brochures and helping us take the calls today. Without this huge network of volunteers this event would not
be possible and it is clear that our visitors all appreciate the work that they do. We have had a number of people on the
phone this morning, and even though some haven’t managed to get spaces on the tours that they wanted they couldn’t
have been any nicer and praised the event and all those involved in it. Hearing how positive they have been has made me
even more prouder to live in Glasgow and be part of this event. Bring on 14th September!”

DOORS OPEN DAY BACKGROUND




Glasgow Doors Open Day is a free festival taking place between 14th – 20th September 2015
Doors Open Days first took place in Glasgow and Ayr in 1990 where it formed part of the European City of Culture celebrations. This
fantastic FREE event is Glasgow's way of celebrating its buildings, its streets, its parks and its people - in short, itself! Held on the
third weekend in September each year, there are tours, walks, talks, seminars and exhibitions in addition to more than 100
buildings being open to visitors to come and ‘get to know’ Glasgow. This Built Heritage Festival provides a chance for Glaswegians to
become ‘tourists’ in their own city for a day. More information can be found at www.glasgowdoorsopenday.com
Coordinated by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, a charity that focuses on saving our built heritage by establishing new uses for
and restoring much loved old buildings.
Doors Open Days takes place throughout Scotland and are part of European Heritage Days. Information about the national
programme can be found at www.doorsopendays.org.uk
