April, 2009
Spring is here and life is wonderful! Well, most of the
time! This month’s eNewsletter’s offering are rather
sparse. We regret to report that there will not be a
dinner program this month. There will, however, be a
dinner on Thursday, May 7th with a presentation on
“New NIH Data on Alzheimer’s Disease” featuring Dr.
Adam Sky and sponsored by Forest. In early June,
Medimax Communications will sponsor a presentation
on “Managing Opioid-Induced- Constipation in
Advanced Illness Patients” - great dinner topic!!
The eNewsletter topics this month are:
 Successful Spring Conference
 Membership Renewals
 Welcome New Members
 Upcoming Summer & Fall Programs
 Geriatrician/Gerontologist of the Year Awards
 Events and Articles of Interest
SUCCESSFUL SPRING CONFERENCE
AzGS celebrated a successful Spring Geriatric Mental
Health & Aging Conference on March 31st. Attended by
125 participants and nine vendors, the evaluations
reported great satisfaction in the program. We are so
fortunate to have some of the best dementia specialists
in Arizona and AzGS extends a very special thanks to
all the speakers: Tena Alonzo, MA, Beatitudes
Campus; Alvin Burstein, MD, Well Being Systems;
Anna Burke, MD, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute; Richard
Caselli, MD, Mayo Clinic Arizona & Arizona Alzheimer’s
Disease Center; Maribeth Gallagher, Psych NP,
Hospice of the Valley; Geri R. Hall, PhD, ARNP, CNSBC, FAAN, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute; Gary Martin,
PhD, InteGer Behavioral Health Associates; Lori
Waldberg, LCSW, Haven Senior Horizons, and Roy
Yaari, MD, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
A sincere thank you to all of you who have renewed
your 2009 AzGS membership! We had a great
response this year and we are all looking forward to an
exciting year ahead! Some of you, however, have still
not yet renewed. If you haven’t renewed by the end of
this month, this will be your last eNewsletter and you will
no longer enjoy the benefits of membership – dinner
programs, discounted registration fees for upcoming
conferences, Spring and Fall Journals, this incredibly
fascinating eNewsletter! We will make one final
attempt to contact you by phone this month. So, there
is still some time…RENEW NOW!!

These awards are given every year at the Annual
