Course Content:
Fieldwork practice gives students the opportunity to practice and transfer classroom theory to
worksites. Students will complete three practicums to obtain course credit. Fieldwork practice may
take place outside regular instructional hours.
Course Format:

Course Prerequisites:




Program attendance must be at 80% or higher
Ability to use public transportation independently preferred.
WST 100 Personal Profile and Career Planning Module.
WST 102 recommended

Learning Outcomes:
Students will:
 Demonstrate satisfactory work habits and attitudes at the work site.
 Learn practical skills from co-workers in their chosen field.
Hours:
Practicum hours will vary according to student and industry needs. Students who require
total supervision may work a minimum of 12 hours. Students may work up to a
maximum of 120 hours (40 hours per practicum).
Evaluation Profile:
Evaluation methods will include:
 daily or weekly faculty observation
 two practicum evaluations completed by the practicum host
 student evaluation of practicum experience
Grading Profile:
GRADING (as per Departmental evaluation forms)


Credit or No Credit.
Practicum evaluations must be satisfactory for practicum to be considered complete.
Assignments:
Work placements in the community as discussed with student and organized by the Instructional
Assistant.
Course Schedule:
Weekly work experience in which hours will vary according to placement availability and
student need.

Northwest Community College has policies on Academic Appeals
(including appeal of final grades), Student Conduct, Cheating and
Plagiarism, Academic Probation and other educational issues. Copies
of these and other policies are available in the College Calendar and in
the Library.

Attendance:
You are expected to attend regularly and make consistent progress to
maintain your registered status. It is important that you contact your
instructor if you will be absent or late.
According to NWCC policy, if you do not attend class for two (2)
consecutive weeks without making prior arrangements with the
instructor, your instructor may withdraw you from the course.
If you fail to attend the first two classes of the course without
making prior arrangements with the instructor, your instructor may
withdraw you from the course.
Students withdrawn due to this policy will be informed in writing and
will be given a grade of UW (Unofficial Withdrawal).
Missed Work
Experience:
Student must make arrangements with the instructor to make up
missed work experience hours.
Late Assignments:
Students will be given ample time to complete assignments.
Cheating/Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's words, ideas,
interpretations, insights, or order of points as your own. All work
submitted must be your own words and content, and not written by a
tutor or friend. Whenever you use sources for an essay, or
assignment, you must avoid plagiarism by documenting them. The
College calendar establishes procedures for plagiarised assignments.
Incomplete Grades:
A withdrawal standing (W) or unofficial withdrawal (UW) will be
given to students not finishing the course.
