1920’S MAGAZINE
DIRECTIONS:
In a group of three people you will research and create a 1920’s magazine. Each member
must write one article and create one visual. The group is responsible for the complete
project.
REQUIREMENTS:
 All articles are typed and in column format
 Each article must be titled and have the authors name on it.
 Minimum page length of 250 words or one page for every article
 Parenthetical citations throughout articles of all sources
 A group works cited page at the end of the magazine for all sources used (by all group
members)
 Must look as authentic and professional as possible (this means you will need to include
extras, like additional advertisements, to make it look like a real magazine- pages should
be back to back and there should be VERY little “white space”)
 Each person must turn in a minimum of 9 MLA formatted research notecards.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Visuals: Visuals can be hand drawn or computer generated but must be ORIGINAL!
1. Cover Page
The cover page must include an illustration and title reflecting the 1920’s, an overview of what is in the
magazine and the group member's names.
2. Advertisement
Create an advertisement directed at young people in the 1920's. It could be about music, sports, movies, cars
or a new consumer product. The advertisement must include
1) An original illustration depicting 1920's people using a 1920's product (you CAN NOT just print an
advertisement from the 1920s!)
2) A product description explaining what the product does.
3. Political Cartoon
The cartoon must include an original illustration and caption making fun of politics in the 1920’s. Presidential
scandals are always good to poke fun at. Write a few sentences explaining the cartoon. (You CAN NOT just
print a political cartoon from the 1920s!)
Articles: articles without citations will receive a “0”!!!
1. Lifestyles Article
Write an article on lifestyles of the 1920's. Use the topics list (on back) to choose your focus for your article.
You must also use “Keen Talk” (slang from the 1920s) throughout the article.
2. Political Article
Write a report on the politics of the 1920’s. The article must be focused on one of the topics listed on the
back. You should focus on how that event either shaped politics of the era or reflected the political climate of
the era.
3. Interview
Write an interview with an important person from the 1920’s. You must use a person from the pre-approved
list (see back). The interview should include an introduction paragraph on background information. Then
create a minimum five question and answer dialogue that explains the person’s role or significance in the 1920’s.
Please see the rubric for additional expectations.
