March-May 2010 Arts Grants funding round
This is a complete list of project grants offered in the March-May 2010 Arts Grants contestable
funding round. Applications to this round closed on 5 March 2010 and grants were announced at the
end of May. Grants are listed within artforms under Creative New Zealand funding groups. In this
round, 82 grants totalling $2,050,156 were offered to support projects by New Zealand artists,
practitioners and arts organisations. Over $8.5 million was requested from 303 applications.
Funding from the Arts Board includes the Edwin Carr Scholarship of $10,000 which has been
awarded to Simon Eastward. This comprises $6,400 from the Edwin Carr Foundation and $3,600
from Creative New Zealand. Also the Louis Johnson New Writers Bursary of $18,000 awarded to
Tracey Slaughter, comprising $1,400 from the Louis Johnson Estate and $16,600 from Creative New
Zealand.
This list also includes applications for Te Waka Toi’s Toi Ake initiative. Two projects totalling $34,000
were offered support.
Te Waka Toi also offered two applicants funding totalling $150,000 through the Maori Arts
Presenters Fund. The Fund has been set up to support touring of quality Maori art works within New
Zealand and to build the audiences for Maori arts in identified areas.
Creative New Zealand also congratulates John-Paul Muir and Brigitte Heuser who each received a
Jack McGill Scholarship of $10,000. The Jack McGill Scholarship is administered by the Public Trust
on behalf of the Jack Wynnegate McGill Estate. The Scholarships are awarded on recommendation
from Creative New Zealand.
