SECTION 08411 ALUMINUM ENTRANCES & STOREFRONTS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 WORK SPECIFIED HEREIN
A. All labor, material, equipment, and service necessary to furnish and install all ALUMINUM ENTRANCES AND
STOREFRONTS as indicated and specified.

1.03 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
A. Design Criteria: Drawings indicate sizes, spacing of members, profiles and dimensional requirements of entrance and store
front work.
The following requirements are recognized as industry standard. Specifier to provide windload requirements based on
installation location.
B. Performance Requirements: Provide aluminum entrance and storefront assemblies that comply with specified performance
characteristics. Each system shall be tested by a recognized testing laboratory or agency in accordance with specified test
methods.
1. Environmental Requirements:
a. Air Infiltration; the systems shall be designed to perform in accordance with ASTM E283. Infiltration shall not exceed
0.06 cfm per square foot of fixed area at 6.24 psf.
b. Water Infiltration; the systems shall be designed to perform in accordance with ASTM 331. No water penetration at a
test pressure of [6.24 psf] or [8 psf].
2. Structural Requirements:
a. Windload; Based on a windload of
(see windload chart) psf, inward and outward; the maximum mullion spacing
shall not provide a deflection greater than L/175 of the total span when tested in accordance with ASTM E 330.
b. Deadloads; The system shall not deflect more than 1/8" at the center point of a horizontal member nor more than 1/16”
for the door header for the following glazing thickness:
1) 6.5 psf for 1" insulated glass
c. Thermal Movement; Systems shall be designed and installed to provide for thermal expansion and contraction within the
system components caused by a maximum 170 degree cycling temperature without causing detrimental effects to
system or components.

Coordinate Section number for Submittals and required submittals as listed below.
1.04 SUBMITTALS
A.
Submit Product Data, Shop Drawings, Samples, and Performance Test Results in accordance with Section 01340, Submittal, for all Work under this Section.
1. Submit manufacturers product specifications, technical product data, standard details, and installation
recommendations for each type of entrance and storefront product required.
2. Submit Shop Drawings for fabrication and installation of entrances and storefronts, including the following:

3. Submit pairs of samples of each type and color of aluminum finish on minimum 3” X 4” material. Where color or texture
variations are anticipated, include 2 or more units in each set of samples indicating extreme limits of variations.
4. Provide performance test results showing that entrance and storefront systems have been tested by a recognized testing
laboratory or agency and comply with specified performance characteristics.
1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Aluminum Entrance, and Storefront System shall be produced by SOUTHWEST ALUMINUM
SYSTEMS, INC. Manufacturer of the assembly shall have not less than 5 years successful experience in the fabrication and
assembly of Work as specified herein.
1.06 SITE CONDITIONS
A.
Field measurements shall be made and all openings verified by field measurement before fabrication to ensure proper fitting
of work. Indicate field measurements on final shop drawings.
B.
Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delay in the work. Where necessary, proceed with
fabrication without field measurements, and coordinate fabrication tolerances to ensure proper fit.
1.07 WARRANTY
A.
Submit a written warranty, executed by the Contractor, Installer and Manufacturer, agreeing to repair or replace units, which
fail in materials or workmanship within the following specified warranty periods.
1.
The framing system, materials, shall be warranted against deterioration of metals due to manufacturing process and
fabrication for a period of two (2) years.
2.
The framing system shall be warranted against structural failures, including excessive deflection, excessive leakage, and
air infiltration due to manufacturing process and fabrication for a period of two (2) years.
3.
The anodized exterior finish system shall be warranted against peeling, cracking, chipping, blistering, or splitting for
a period of two (2) years.
Their respective manufacturers warrant the following paint finishes for five (5) years:
Acroflur-50% Kynar 500, Finishes and the following Paragraph.
Fluorpolymer-70% Kynar 500,
3. The painted exterior finish system shall be warranted against color fading, chipping, and delamination for a period of five (5)
years
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS
A.
These specifications are based on the Aluminum Entrances and Storefront Flush Offset Glazing product manufactured by
Oldcastle Glass Engineered Products / Southwest Aluminum Systems 50 South 56th Street, Chandler, Arizona 85226: (480)
961-2000.
1. Aluminum Entrances and Storefront framing shall be an Offset Glazed System for 1” insulated glass as follows:
Series “FG” Offset captured glazing systems and Series “FSG” Flush Offset Vertical Silicone Butt Glaze Systems. Select
one or more based on project requirements.
The following systems are for 1” glazing.

FG 451 2” x 4½” Offset Captured Glazing System.
b.
FSG 451; 2” x 4 ½” Offset Vertical Structural Silicone Glazing System.
Delete if substitutions are not permitted. Coordinate Section number if substitutions are permitted.

MATERIALS
Extruded Framing Members shall be A-6063-T5 alloy and temper aluminum complying with ASTM B221.
1. Members supporting 1” insulated glazing shall have a minimum 0.80” wall thickness.
B. Provide fasteners for assembling the framing system of aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials warranted by the
manufacturer to be non-corrosive and compatible with aluminum components, hardware, anchors and other components.
1. Steel fasteners used in the assembly of the framing system shall be coated with a bituminous coating complying with ASTM
A 164.
C. Perimeter anchors shall be aluminum or steel of the suitable size and design to resist applied loading on the framing system.

D. Glazing Gaskets shall be a continuous EPDM reinforced with cords to prevent stretching and shrinkage
E. Accessories to the framing system shall include the following:
1. Minimum 0.040” or 0.090” aluminum break metal flashings and trims, finished to match framing system.
2.04 SYSTEM FABRICATION
A.
Framing system shall be provided with continuous head and sill channels; When splices are required to join channels, use
metal splice sleeves and place at the center of lite openings, between vertical mullions, as required for thermal expansion.
B.
Framing system shall be designed for flush glazing on all sides with no projecting stops.
dimensions of system members are to be consistent based on the System Series selected.
C.
Framing members adjacent to entrances shall be provided by the same manufacturer as the framing system and be
compatible with framing system.
D.
Framing members shall be internally reinforced with minimum 10 gauge galvanized steel channel shapes as necessary for
performance requirements, for hardware attachment, and as indicated.
E.
Fasteners, attachments, and jointing shall be so located as to ensure concealment from view in the final assembly. Exposed
fasteners shall be finished to match framing system.
F.
Maintain accurate relation of planes and angles, with hairline fit of contacting members.
2.05
Nominal face and depth
ALUMINUM FINISHES
Coordinate with Paragraph 1.07, Warranties.
Note to Specifier: Clear, Dark Bronze, and Black anodized finishes can be controlled to ensure UNIFORM color. Light and
Medium Bronze finishes can not be controlled as closely, and, generally require a longer lead time and are priced as
Special Orders
A.
All exposed surfaces of the framing system shall be finished with an Architectural Class Anodized Finish; chemical etch,
medium matte, having a minimum thickness of 0.4 to 0.7 mil, integrally or electrolytically deposited colored anodic coating
sealed in accordance with ASTM specifications B-136-77 and free of scratches and other blemishes. The coating shall
conform to the following minimum requirements for thickness and weight and shall be continuous, fully sealed when
measured in accordance with ASTM B137-45, ASTM B244-68, and ISO 3210.1
1. Anodized finish color shall be________ (Light, Medium, Dark Bronze, Black or Gold) to match approved sample.
B. All exposed surfaces of the framing system shall be finished with an Anodized Finish; caustic etch followed by an anodic
oxide treatment to obtain a clear anodized finish, medium matte, having a minimum thickness of 0.4 mil, integrally or
electrolytically deposited colored anodic coating sealed in accordance with ASTM specifications B-136-77, and free of
scratches and other blemishes.
1. Anodized finish color shall be Clear Anodized to match approved sample.
The following paint finishes are available from OLDCASTLE GLASS ENGINEERED PRODUCTS / SOUTHWEST
ALUMINUM SYSTEMS Select one or more types of paint as required by your project.
C.
AII exposed surfaces of the framing system shall be finished with a high performance pigmented organic coating finish.
Aluminum surfaces shall be cleaned with inhibited chemicals, conversion coated with acid-chromate-fluoride-phosphate
treatment, and painted with organic coating specified below. Prepare, pre-treat and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces
to comply with coating and resin manufacturers instructions providing a finish free of scratches and other blemishes.

1. Fluorpolymer Coating shall conform to American Architectural Manufacturers Association 2605.2, “Specifications for High
Performance Organic Coatings on Architectural Extrusions and Panels” containing a minimum of 70% Kynar 500 resin with
a minimum of 1.2 mil dry film thickness.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 Examination
A. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify substrate conditions (which have been previously installed under other sections) are acceptable for
product installation in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Verify openings are sized to receive storefront system and sill plate is
level in accordance with manufacturer’s acceptable tolerances.
1. Field Measurements: Verify actual measurements/openings by field measurements before fabrication; show recorded measurements
on shop drawings. Coordinate field measurements, fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid construction delays.
3.02 Installation
A. General: Install storefront systems plumb, level, and true to line, without warp or rack of frames with manufacturer’s prescribed
tolerances and installation instructions. Provide support and anchor in place.
1. Dissimilar Materials: Provide separation of aluminum materials from sources of corrosion or electrolytic action contact points.
2. Weather tight Construction: Refer to installation instructions & consult sealant manufacture for project specific application. Coordinate
installation with wall flashings and other components of construction.
a. Refer to Division 7 Joint Treatments (Sealants) for installation requirements.
B. Related Products Installation Requirements:
1. Sealants (Perimeter): Refer to Section 7 Joint Treatment (Sealants).
2. Glass: Refer to Section 8 Glass and Glazing.
a. Reference: ANSI Z97.1, CPSC 16 CFR 1201 and GANA Glazing Manual.
3.03 Field Quality Control
A. Field Tests: Architect shall select storefront units to be tested as soon as a representative portion of the project has been installed,
glazed, perimeter caulked and cured. Test units having deficiencies shall be corrected as part of the contract amount.
1. Testing: Test in accordance with AAMA 501.2. Conduct test in the presence of the Architect.
2. Certified Testing: [Optional testing at additional cost to the owner or when specified in project documents to be included under scope of
work.] Testing shall be performed by a qualified independent testing agency. Refer to Division 1 Testing Section for payment of testing
and testing requirements. Testing Standard per AAMA 503, including reference to ASTM E 783 for Air Infiltration Test and ASTM E
1105 Water Infiltration Test.
a. Air Infiltration Tests: Conduct tests in accordance with ASTM E 783. Allowable air infiltration shall not exceed 1.5 times the amount
indicated in the performance requirements or 0.09 cfm/ft2, which ever is greater.
b. Water Infiltration Tests: Conduct tests in accordance with ASTM E 1105. No uncontrolled water leakage is permitted when tested at
a static test pressure of two-thirds the specified water penetration pressure but not less than 6.24 psf.
3.04 Protection and Cleaning
A. Protection: Protect installed product’s finish surfaces from damage during construction. Protect aluminum storefront system from damage
from grinding and polishing compounds, plaster, lime, acid, cement, or other harmful contaminants.
B. Cleaning: Repair or replace damaged installed products. Clean installed products in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions prior to
owner’s acceptance. Remove construction debris from project site and legally dispose of debris.
