This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced epidemiologist, to work in the field of infectious diseases, antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and join a

multidisciplinary research team at Imperial working closely with the NHS.

The multidisciplinary team, at the National Centre for Infection Prevention and

Management (CIPM www.imperial.ac.uk/cipm ) are undertaking a range of research including work into behaviour change, innovation adoption, epidemiology and microbiology all focused on tackling the issue of antibiotic use, healthcare associated infection and the increasing national and global challenge of AMR . The Centre itself is a close collaboration between Imperial College London, Imperial College

Healthcare NHS Trust and the Health Protection Agency (now Pubic Health

England).

The Trust also runs an enormous antibiotic stewardship programme and has a hospital epidemiology and information unit that provides enormous opportunities for both Research and Service Improvement projects in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antibiotic use and clinical outcomes.

The Project

The Centre for Infection Prevention and Management has recently been awarded a two year research grant by the Imperial College Biomedical Research Centre to undertake and measure the impact of a variety of interventions, including point of care m-health interventions addressing key infection prevention and management issues including antibiotic prescribing patterns and AMR.

The post-holder will be expected to carry out detailed analyses using Trust prescribing and resistance data to both assess the impact of various interventions more accurately and to inform the design of new ones. These may be quantitative, qualitative, analytic or descriptive. The Centre also has a number of other projects including work on the epidemiology of multi drug resistant organisms, e.g ESBLs and Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) using both Trust and Health

Protection Agency/PHE data.

The post-holder will be expected to collaborate and support other relevant projects within the CIPM portfolio, including BRC funded projects on the epidemiology of AMR in the intensive care environment, Service Evaluation projects at the boundaries of

NHS service and Research and generally participate in the academic life of the centre.
