Guidelines and Entry Form

Do you have something positive to say about walking, cycling, public transport or carsharing?
Then let’s hear it and see it! Get started on your entry now for the chance to win great prizes as part
of the Student Multimedia Awards 2016!
Who can enter?
Entry will be accepted from individual students or from a team of students from Smarter Travel
Campus Partners only (please see www.smartertravelcampus.ie for the list of Partners). Each team
can have a maximum of 4 members. This competition is not open to staff in Partner organisations,
but staff are welcome to give guidance to students in relation to production (e.g. technical issues).
What can I enter?
You can enter any form of multi-media, including text, graphics, video, interactive content,
animation and audio. Your entry can be documentary, mockumentary, montage, demonstration,
magazine style or whatever you wish, and can include stills, animation, photos, interviews, vox pops,
or whatever format you wish to use. You can enter the multimedia competition as many times as
you like – but make sure you include a separate entry form for each entry!
Your entry must showcase any/ many positive aspect(s) of sustainable travel. The approach and
content are entirely up to the production team/ individual. Sample topics you could cover are below,
but students are encouraged to be creative!
 Benefits of active travel (keeping fit, saving money, saving time)
 Documentary – why I cycle/ where I walk/ what I see
 Demonstration – how to… fix a puncture, spruce your bike up etc.
Audio, Animation, Video or Interactive Content – Guidance for
Entries:



Entries must be minimum 45 seconds/ maximum 180 seconds including credits.
You don't need an expensive video camera or recording device to participate in this
competition – you can use a digital camera, a phone or any other recording device.
As animations/ videos may be shown on larger screens at any future Smarter Travel Campus
seminar, it is important that you create it at the highest resolution you can.
How to submit your Video Entry:




Video files should be saved as either QuickTime .MOV, Windows .AVI, or .MPG files. For
video, the original resolution of your video - for HD is 1920 x1080 (1080p) or 1280 x 720.
When you’re happy with your entry, please upload it to YouTube or Vimeo.
If you don’t already have an account on YouTube or VIMEO, you need to register at:

How to submit your Audio Entry:



When you’re happy with your entry, upload it to SoundCloud or AudioBoom – preferably as
a WAV file, but MP3s will also be accepted.
If you don’t already have an account on SoundCloud or AudioBoom, you can sign up at:
www.audioboom.com or www.soundcloud.com
Details of how to record or upload files can be found on both sites when you are logged in
(see ‘How to’ section on AudioBoom, and Help Forum or Upload on SoundCloud).
Then…



Once you’ve uploaded your audio or video entry, you will be assigned a unique URL - please
save this URL and include it in your entry form(s).
You can enter as many times as you like, but will need to do a separate entry form for each
video you're entering.
When you've got your URL and filled out your entry form, please email the completed entry
form to info@smartertravelcampus.ie
Please note!
Sending us the URL for your audio or video entry allows us to view it and share it with the judges.
However we will also require your files to show at the Smarter Travel Awards. Please keep your file
safe! We will be in touch with instructions for sending your files to us in due course.
How to submit your Interactive entry:
 Interactive content should be submitted by USB or CD by post to Student Media
Competition, Smarter Travel Campus, National Transport Authority, Dun Sceine, Iveagh
Court, Harcourt Lane, Dublin 2.
Text or Graphics – Guidance for Entries



Students can enter paint, pencil, chalk, photographs, mixed media or CAD designs.
Your entry can be in any style.
The maximum size for each entry is A3.
How to submit your Text/ Graphics Entry:





To ensure the safe-keeping of your entry, please package your original artwork appropriately
when submitting it.
Please send your entry form and artwork to: Smarter Travel Campus Media Competition,
National Transport Authority, Dun Sceine, Iveagh Court, Harcourt Lane, Dublin 2.
You can enter as many times as you like, but be sure to include a separate Entry Form with
each entry.
The National Transport Authority will not be held responsible for any damage to artwork
submitted as part of this competition.
Original artwork can be collected from the National Transport Authority after judging has
concluded and winners are announced. It is anticipated that this will be in April 2016.
Collection is by prior arrangement, contact info@smartertravelcampus.ie to arrange a
collection time/ date.
When is the Deadline for Entry?
The deadline for entry is Friday the 11th of March 2016.
When will Winners be Announced?
Winners will be announced in April, with local prize-givings taking place towards the end of April
2016, subject to our winner’s diaries! Winners will also be invited to be part of our national Smarter
Travel awards in November 2016.
Winners Showcase
Shortlisted entries will be showcased at the Smarter Travel Awards in November 2016 and on the
Smarter Travel Workplaces/ Campus website and Facebook pages. Those shortlisted may be invited
to present their work and participate in the showcase sessions.
Honorary mention may not be solely confined to the prize winners and other entries may be invited
to attend or display their videos.
By entering this competition, you acknowledge that your entry may be shown on National Transport
Authority websites and at Authority events/ seminars, and in Partner campuses.
The winning entries must be made available to the Smarter Travel Campus programme/ National
Transport Authority. For graphic/ text entries – the original artwork must be made available. For
audio/ video entries, the entry must be made available in a high resolution format.

Who are the Judges?
Details of the judging panel will be published on the Smarter Travel Campus website in late 2015/
early 2016. The panel will include a representative of the National Transport Authority and external
creative(s).
Prizes
There will be prizes for first, second and third places, with a maximum of four students being
awarded for each category.
Prizes will include fantastic cameras, tablets and goodie packs for our winners, as well as being
showcased at the Smarter Travel Awards in November 2016 and throughout the Smarter Travel
Workplaces and Smarter Travel Campus programmes.
Details of prizes for each category will be published on www.smartertravelcampus.ie in the coming
months.

Terms & Conditions
1. Only Students of Partners of the Smarter Travel Campus programmes may enter the Smarter
Travel awards.
2. There is no charge for entry.
3. Students can enter as many times as they like, but must submit a separate entry form for
each entry.
4. You decide what you do in your entry, but please don't break our terms and conditions, and
you must follow our guidelines.
5. Respect copyright. Only upload entries that you made or that you are authorised to use.
6. If you feature anyone else in your work, you must have his or her consent to feature this
individual in your entry. Do not infringe anyone's right to privacy.
7. Do not include anything that is obscene, indecent, harassing, threatening or offensive.
8. Do not say untrue things about people or companies, as this may be defamatory.
9. Your entry must not promote, show or incite cruelty, violence, vandalism, fraudulent or
criminal acts or contain content or images that could encourage others to commit illegal acts
or acts that could cause physical harm if replicated.
10. Other people will be able to view your entry – do not reveal anything personal, unless you're
comfortable in doing so.
11. The judges’ decision is final.
12. All entrants agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges and accept no correspondence,
telephone, email or communication of any kind will be entered into in relation to decisions
reached.
13. The National Transport Authority reserves the right not to award a category at its own
discretion and without recourse to the entrants of said category.
14. Shortlisted entries may be published on the Smarter Travel Workplaces/ Smarter Travel
Campus and National Transport Authority websites and ezines; at the Smarter Travel Awards
2016; at other Authority events/ seminars; and on Smarter Travel Workplaces/ Smarter
Travel Campus materials.
15. Full terms and conditions, prize details, FAQs etc will be published on
