THE WOODLANDS HS THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT
CLASSROOM GUIDELINES
Prerequisites: honesty, willingness to participate, imagination, concentration, self-discipline, energy, time.
Requirements to be successful in this class:
1. acceptance of teacher as director
2. wear or bring loose and comfortable clothing (rehearsal clothes to work in)
3. total dependability -- no absences, no excuses
4. enthusiasm, positive attitude, willingness to try anything
5. cooperation with others -- drama is a cooperative art
6. concentration, self-discipline, and control (emotional and physical)
7. good health and stamina
8. no negativism or personal problems brought to class
9. full participation in all class activities
10. possess the attitude that this class is to help you to become better person and better actor
Supplies required for class:
FEES of $55 for TA I/II/Tech; $55 for TA III/IV/Production to cover:
PRODUCTION PASS for ALL SHOWS, Make-up unit
Scripts/Photocopying for Class Play
pen, pencil, and highlighter
loose-leaf folder... to keep drama journals, notes handouts scripts
calendar
rehearsal clothes
CHOOSE ONE: makeup sponges, hot gun glue sticks, magic markers, map pencils, glue, construction paper, scissors
Suggestions to EXCELL in Theatre Arts:
1. become involved in co-curricular drama activities: plays, activities
2. join Thespian Troupe #1053/Drama Club
3. do well in your other classes -- no failures
4. get along with your family
5. assume responsibilities in the department -- ask to help, come after school
6. learn to budget your time
Classroom Rules and Regulations:
1. Ask to use supplies (DO NOT WASTE): tape, staples, liquid paper, glue, etc.
2. NO gum chewing/eating/drinking during class in room/theatre!
3. Be on time for class or rehearsals.
4. No temper tantrums and other displays of wasted energy.
5. No aggressively hostile attitudes that make others uncomfortable.
6. No sitting in the teachers’ chairs or at the teachers’ desk or hanging out in office.
7. No touching the grade book.
8. Put all supplies back after using them.
9. No drama supplies, costumes, props, makeup may be used for other classes.
10. All personal notes may be posted on the designated bulletin board only.
11. Any defacing of school, drama room, drama property will be severely dealt with.
12. ALL PRODUCTION RULES APPLY FOR CLASS SCENES/PLAYS:
--hang up costumes; do not touch hung or stored costumes
--use your own makeup; stay out of make up/dressing rooms
--give teachers a list of props needed; stay out of prop rooms
--only those approved in lights and sound may go to booth
--bring scripts to every class or rehearsal
--use only your given script to rehearse with, not the school script
CLASSROOM GUIDELINES
Purpose: to make your drama class a joyful and safe experience for EVERYONE!
to be able to learn as much as possible!
1. Everyone should be in the room by the time the tardy bell rings. Roll will be checked at that time. Much of our work
depends on everyone starting together.
2. Tardies and absences will adhere to school policy. See Handbook. Please call the department if you will be absent on a
day you are to perform or rehearse with others. 936-273-8530 (room 145) or 936-8527 (room 137) or 936-273-8689 (scene
shop) or 936-709-7218 (9th grade).
3. No one will leave the classroom AREA for any reason without permission and a pass. No one is allowed to go to the
bathroom during class unless it is an emergency! Please go before or after class -- the bathrooms are very close to class.
4. Bring a jacket if the class is cold. You may not use prop clothes/blankets.
5. All SCRIPTS must be CHECKED OUT AND RETURNED promptly. SEE PROCEDURE. Violators will not be allowed to
check out material. Many items are the teachers’ personal materials and have sentimental value and cannot be replaced. Please
pay for lost scripts immediately so another may be ordered. DO NOT USE SCHOOL SCRIPTS TO REHEARSE. DO NOT
MARK IN PEN ON SCHOOL SCRIPTS.
6. NO CUTTINGS MAY LEAVE THE ROOM! If you want a cutting, leave it in the Xerox box with a note and it will be
Xeroxed for you. DO NOT USE SCHOOL CUTTINGS TO REHEARSE. NEVER UNSTAPLE CUTTINGS FROM THE
FILE!!!!!!!
7. HELP to keep the rooms clean. Pick up trash when you see it. Don’t add to it.
8. DO NOT DO OTHER CLASSWORK during our time.
9. Return keys directly to teacher’s hand.
10. Do not write personal messages on the marker board. Stick messages on message board.
13. Do not write on the calendar. Leave a message for secretary if you want something posted.
14. Answer the phone: “Woodlands High School Drama” and ask who is calling.
15. Use supplies sparingly. ASK TO USE SUPPLIES ON THE SHELF. If you waste supplies (tape, staples, glue, paint, etc.)
you will be required to replenish stock. Do not use good paper for notes, use computer paper/scratch paper or tickets. You may
not help yourself to pens, pencils markers, etc. in the supplies cabinet. USE ONLY MARKERS IN THE MARKERS BOX
and the supplies on the shelf.
16. At no time during class, during school, after school, during rehearsals or shows are students allowed in areas of the theatre,
scene shop, or black box without permission from the directors.
SCENE SHOP/PRODUCTION WORK/PERFORMANCE RULES (Failure to adhere to these theatre discipline and
management objectives will affect your grade).
1. Only authorized students are allowed in the scene shop/costume shop to WORK ONLY.
2. Only authorized (by teachers) students are allowed in the auditorium, on the catwalk, in the light booth.
3. Costumes are not to be taken off the rack. They may not be used for other classes or pep rallies. Only teachers may check
out costumes/props. Props, tools, and make-up are NOT TO BE TOUCHED without permission.
4. Listening and being a good audience are part of the class objectives. Disturbances will not be tolerated either during class
or at performances.
5. Only authorized students are allowed in the dressing rooms at anytime.
6. No eating, drinking, gum chewing, applying make-up during class in Black box, theatre, etc.
7. No drugs, liquor, or tobacco during any drama activity sponsored by the school.
