Volcano Travel Brochure

Assignment Summary:
You are a member of a high-adventure travel agency. Your agency has
been receiving many requests from its clients to visit active volcano
sites, preferably ones that are likely to erupt at any moment! Your job is
to make a prototype of an advertising brochure. You choose the
destination and create an eye-catching, informative three-fold brochure
highlighting what the area has to offer the adventure traveler.
Purpose:
Your purpose is both persuasive and informative. Your job is to attract
the reader to the location.
Writer’s Role:
You are a member of the advertising team for an adventure travel
agency.
Audience:
You will be writing for scientifically-minded adventurous people who
are potential clients of the travel agency
Form:
Your brochure should be typed and laid out in three-fold format using
both the front and the back of each page. The back of the brochure
should have a bibliography. The brochure should be colorful and
visually appealing and include photos and graphics. You must include
the following information in your brochure either in a narrative format or
using bullet points:
a. Name of the volcano
b. Its location (country, latitude and longitude)
c. Volcano type (shield, cinder, strato, dome)
d. Type of magma produced
e. Eruption violence ( high, moderate, low)
f. Eruption products (lava, ash, cinders, gas)
g. Associated structures (caldera, vent, crater, etc.)
h. Its current life stage (active, dormant or extinct)
i. Its history (last eruptions, damage done, lives lost, etc.)
j. Any unusual history or facts about it

research on the volcano of your choice. You MUST get approval
from me before you start researching.
Continue researching your volcano in the library or at home. See
me for a library pass if needed.

someone proofread it for you.
Make any corrections that are necessary.

Annotated Bibliography
When you turn in your brochure, you must also turn in an annotated bibliography of the sources used
for the brochure. Follow these guidelines:
 If you directly quote material from your sources, you must use quotation marks and citations in the
brochure itself.
 Fill out the Source Gathering Worksheet as you go.
 Fill out a Resource Evaluation Sheet for each source, and attach a copy of the source to the sheet.
 Use MLA documentation style for the bibliography as found in your student agenda book (page
133).
