Job Summary/Purpose:
The Pain Management Nurse Clinician Team Lead is a professional caregiver who serves as a clinical expert and liaison in coordinating pain
management. The responsibilities include day-to-day operations and long term planning of the department. This person serves as a role model for
professional excellence in the administration of patient care and staff relations. The Pain Management Nurse Clinician Team Lead will utilize the
nursing process, communication skills, and problem solving techniques to deliver quality care. The Pain Management Nurse Clinician Team Lead
will also be responsible for the knowledge and technical skill needed to operate a variety of mechanical devices to accomplish this task. The Pain
Management Nurse Clinician Team Lead is accountable for the age groups (average age group populations includes pediatrics from age 12
months, adolescents, adults and geriatrics) as defined in the scope of care.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current State Illinois Registered Nurse License
Minimum of 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse
Advanced knowledge in pain management
CPR or ACLS
Essential Physical Requirements:
 Ability to perform light to heavy work which includes frequent lifting and positioning of patients For greater than 50 pounds it may be
expected that the nurse will request assistance from a co-worker for lifting and transferring
 Ability to stand/walk 6 to 8 hours per shift
 Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop and occasionally kneel and squat
 Ability to perform various repetitive tasks i.e., simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation (keyboard)
 Good visual acuity is required for patient assessment, medication administration and documentation of care.
 Good hearing is essential for accurate patient assessment
 All employees within this job classification may have high risk exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials

Performs a specialized pain assessment within 24 hours of consult.
Acts as a consultant to care team for patients on pain service.
Assists in the development of standards of care/practice related to pain
management.
Acts as a liaison between patient, staff and physicians.
Provides staff education related to pain management.
Identifies patient/family learning needs with regards to pain management and
documents on the care plan.
Plan intervention to meet patient/family lack of knowledge/skills related to pain
management.
Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities in meeting individual learning
needs.
Assessment of patients in the inpatient and outpatient areas and by telephone
communicating findings with pain management physician or advanced practitioner
as appropriate to RN license.
Conducts rounds on all patients on pain service, assessing the effectiveness of
therapy as well as patient’s physical status. Document in progress notes and care
plan.
Uses age appropriate assessment tools and techniques to determine patient’s level
of pain and response to pain interventions.
Consults with physician to adjust doses of pain medications based on age, physical
condition and past medication responses.
Plan interventions in collaboration with patient/family and other caregivers to
optimize pain control and minimize side effects.
Provides ongoing communication to the care team on the effectiveness of pain
management and revisions to the care plan.
Evaluates and documents the patient response to pain management interventions
and alters the plan of care as necessary.
