Romeo & Juliet – a Moral Dilemma
Once upon a time there was a man called Romeo and a woman called Juliet.
They were madly in love. One day, Juliet went sailing in a boat, by herself. A storm arose
unexpectedly and Juliet was shipwrecked on an island that was separated from the mainland
by shark infested waters.
Juliet was anxious to get back to the man she loved, Romeo. So she wandered around the
island looking for someone who could help her return to the mainland. Eventually, she came
across a man called Jack whom she asked to help her. Jack refused to help or get involved
with her and washed his hands of the matter.
Juliet continued to search the island for people to help, and finally met a man called Simbad.
Simbad agreed to help her and had a boat to take Juliet across to the mainland BUT on one
condition that Juliet remain with him for the night. Juliet agreed. The next day Simbad
sailed Juliet across the sea. There waiting on he shore was Romeo.
They were happy to see each other. Shortly after their meeting, Juliet told Romeo what she
had to do to get back to him on the mainland. Romeo was furious. A severe argument broke
out between Romeo and Juliet and during the heated argument a man called Sir Gallahad
came by and got involved in the argument.
A fight broke out between Romeo and Sir Gallahad and during the course of the battle,
Romeo fell over a cliff and was killed. As Romeo fell, Juliet smiled.
List the characters in the order you prefer them from best to worst. Do this as an
individual exercise. Then in a small group, try to decide as a group who would be the
best and who would be the worst for the whole group. Justify your choices.
