I originally wanted to continue working on the layers of the atmosphere project I started in
week 3. My class is finished with the atmosphere section of meteorology but I did use the
activity I created in week 5. The assignment was great and the kids really loved it!!!
I decided that for this week I would like to challenge myself and create a database that can
be used for a unit that I really enjoy teaching. I know that this will be a large challenge but I
love minerals and when I looked at the original lesson plans that I used for minerals I did not
have any technology pieces included in the unit. I thought that this would be a great
opportunity to develop something new and useful down the road. I hope that this does not
penalize me for not continuing the atmosphere theme, but since I used the other project and
found success I figured out why not try a new one!

Wikipages, web 2.0/3.o tools, Microsoft office, creating graphic

I will create a wiki page with the use of graphics and spread
sheets, word processing, and Microsoft powerpoint, to create
a resource for students to use through out the Minerals
I need to learn how to create a webpage that has multiple
uses not only for one lesson but for multiple lessons over a
unit. I will also need a interactive web based tool to help
students simulate a mineral identification lab
I will work to create my own database to help familiarize
myself on how to create useful web based tools to be used in
the classroom

Digital images, videos on specific mineral manufacturing
(gold mining, quartz and silicon processing, emerald mining,
etc), web pages for online experimentation and simulated
mineral identification lab,
The web site should be organized and user friendly.
Students should be able to grab a physical mineral
specimen and find out what the mineral is, where it could be
from, the value, and uses of that mineral.

Also students will create a spreadsheet of mineral localities
in Virginia area. The type of mineral, the uses, and the
economic value.
