Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics is a multifaceted Department with well developed subspecialties of Neonatology, Genetics, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Nephrology,
Neurology, Endocrinology, Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology and
Pulmonology. There are 56 Pediatric beds, 6-bedded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 10
bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 4 intermediate neonatal care beds and 30
rooming-in beds. The Department runs ambulatory General Pediatric OPD services
daily and more than 10 specialty clinics in the afternoons. During 2003-04, 62,882
children were seen in the outpatient department, 18,395 children were seen in the
specialty clinics and 5,861 children were admitted to the in-patient service. The
Institute caters to the registration and confinement of high risk pregnancies and every
year around 2200 deliveries are conducted. The Department is supported by 14 faculty
members, 12 DM residents, 18 Senior residents, 22 Junior residents and over 100
member complement of research staff
