FUNdamentals Leader Coaching Course
Q-Plex July 7-10, 2015
The FUNdamentals Leader training is ideal for teenage skaters looking to get into
coaching, as well as parents who are interested in helping out or learning a little bit
more about speed skating. It is also a great refresher and source of new ideas for
current coaches.
This course prepares coaches to work as an assistant coach with skaters in the Active
Start, FUNdamentals & Learning to Train stages of development with skaters in both
the Learn to Skate and
Learn to Speed Skate programs.
Class time will be 7:30-8:30 am Tuesday to Friday during the “Skate Into Summer”
Camp. Morning sessions will also include video of “Learn to speed skate” groups to
show elements needing correction as well as corrective procedures to try and fix those
errors.
Every participant will get 1 hour of practical on-ice training each day, as well hands on
experience in detection and correction. The FUNdamental Leader coaches will be
assisting the group 3 lead coach each day and will have the course Instructor on the
ice as a session mentor as well.
This is an optional, bonus, opportunity for those skaters, 14 and up, who are in the
advanced “Skate Into Summer” training group. It is also offered to other speed
skaters, coaches and parents from any other clubs, whether they are enrolled in the
camp or not.
