Present and Past Perfect
Open Juried Exhibition
for Emerging and Established Artists
Through Aug 21st
Notes from the President
 PRESENT AND PAST PERFECT - This show is an exciting mix of styles and mediums that really encouraged new artists to become involved
with our center. It’s inspirational to see the range of works. If you haven’t made it yet, make a point of checking it out by August 21. Lots of
affordable wall pieces and ceramics available for purchase. To start or supplement your collection. Thanks to Catherine B. Rowe for her
donation for awards for presented in the Present and Past Perfect Exhibition
 ACROSS GENERATIONS – The Greensburg Library is once again hosting one of our own (actually 2) with Sue White and her granddaughter
Morgan offering their contrasting approaches to art. We’re always happy to see a collaboration like this showing “it really is in the genes”.
Several sales and lots of wine and good food and the opening can be pronounced a success!
 OUR HELEN IS AT IT AGAIN! – Nothing can stop Helen Thorne’s creative energy (I want to be like her when I grow up). The Mountain
Playhouse was the latest venue to showcase her talents. Sorry I missed it but apparently others were more fortunate since she sold several
pieces.
 ANDREWS AND ANDREWS – Our GAC member Suzanne and her husband are showing together at the Monroeville Public Library during the
month of August. Photography at its best!
 IT’S PICNIC TIME AGAIN - Mark September 19 on your calendar for fun and food. We’ll be starting with a plein aire session for all interested
parties from 2 pm till 5 pm and for those more inclined to sitting down while you create, we will have 3” wooden snowflakes that you may draw
or paint your version of St. Nick that we will be using to sell at our Snowflake Showcase this year. Your contribution will be eligible for a People’s
Choice prize to be awarded during the holiday sale. If you wish to contribute to the food, please inform Renie Pollock as to what you would be
making or get together with some others and contribute funds to the cause. It’s important that you make your commitment early enough that we
can determine what we still need or make certain that we don’t have an overabundance in some area (especially if your donation requires
refrigerator space). Our MENU WISH LIST includes - fresh fruit (would love to see an old-fashioned watermelon bowl filled with fruit – a good
team project), cut up veggies – peppers, celery, sliced cucumbers, sliced fresh mushrooms, (just in bags – I have serving containers), chunk
cheeses and crackers, hard rolls for pulled pork sandwiches, rigatoni, and desserts – brownies, lemon bars, pecan bars or pecan tassies, fruit
cobblers or pies, etc. Also, I need some helpers 2 days before for setup of the tents and the day before for set up of tables, chairs, etc. and to
put chicken on skewers and other food prep, if you’re willing to lend a hand.
 CHRISTMAS PARTY – Rose Sovyak has graciously offered to chair our party this year, but this is NOT a one-person job. Give her a
call and offer your assistance with games, food, decorations, etc.
 AMAZON SMILE Program – Keep those Amazon Smile purchases coming so that the GAC can continue getting checks from this program.
This is the easiest way to help support your center by simply spending your money on any Amazon purchase for regular purchases and simply
signing in first at Amazon Smile, selecting Greensburg Art Club, and then make your purchase as usual. Everyone should know that Amazon
will give ½% of the purchase amount to your designated non-profit 501c3 – that would be …drum roll…Greensburg Art Club (please note the
word CLUB. Our official non-profit designation is CLUB, not center. Every little bit helps, so the next time you are buying through Amazon,
please remember the AMAZON SMILE program and choose us as your beneficiary for the ½%.
 ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF MEMBERSHIP – Ed Gross and Don Pollock have removed the rotting fence from the triangle of land by
the Sunoco station donated to us by the Eastwood Garden Club. Soon we hope to put a new sign with the Greensburg Art Center’s name and a
directional arrow to help newcomers in their quest to find us - “Greensburg’s Best Kept Secret”.
 CONGRATULATIONS, KUDOS, HIP HIP HOORAY, AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF – to Bonnie Hoffman, who was named 2015
Distinquished SAMA Auxiliary Honoree (having seen everything she does for the GAC, I can certainly understand how she received this
accolade); To Shirleah Kelley who won Best of Show in the Westmoreland Art Nationals in partnership with WCCC for her photograph
“Aviator”.
MEMBERSHIP MEETING : August 10th.

NOW is the time to start planning for the 2015 Snowflake Showcase, opening this year on November 14. We will be accepting work around
November 1. More details will be posted later as to days and times we will be receiving paintings and crafts/3D art. Begin preparing now to avoid
the late fee. Crafts include holiday decorations, ornaments, centerpieces; matted & framed prints; accessories -- knitted & crocheted items,
jewelry, purses, gloves, mittens, scarves, scarf pins, shawls, shrugs, neckwarmers; ceramics, textiles, trivets, pillows, dolls, kitchen items, cards &
note cards, glassware; wine gifts and wine stoppers; and one-of-a-kind gifts. We always have requests for holiday items with snowflakes and also
gifts for men and boys. We are always happy to have new items in our inventory for sale each year. It is recommended that holiday art be priced
affordably. Open to Members and Non-Members.
2015 Snowflake Showcase St. Nicholas Creations/Contest (November 2015) This year GAC has ordered wooden snowflake ornaments for
decorating/painting. We are asking members to pick up wooden snowflakes at the Center, paint/decorate -- using the "St. Nicholas" theme this
year, and return to GAC during the month of October. (Would like to receive these by Oct. 15.)
These snowflakes will be sold with all proceeds going to GAC. Use any medium you like, but these must have the "St. Nick" theme.
Please sign out the number of ornaments you are taking, at the monitor's desk, where there will be a sign-out sheet. Please return unpainted
ornaments and also sign in when returning finished snowflakes. The back must also be painted the same color as the front, but no image is
necessary on the back. After GAC receives these, a hole will be punched for hanging. You may provide a small ribbon, etc., to match, or GAC will
provide the hanger ribbon. Samples to view will be available soon.
Wooden ornaments will also be available at the GAC picnic if you would like to paint or draw during that time. Watch for more details.
.
EDUCATION Class/workshop proposal forms must be in by July 31. No classes or workshops will be added after the flyer is complete.
Flyers will be mailed in August. Fall classes will begin in September.
As we move into a new session of offerings at GAC, it is important to have all current clearance forms on file for many instructors involved in
activities at the center. In accordance with Pennsylvania child abuse laws, all teachers and those with any possibility of being with young persons
are required to submit both the Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Record Check form and the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
Clearance form. The GAC Educational Committee is here to assist all persons to complete these requirements.
TWO IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING CLEARANCES: If you choose to submit hard (paper) copies of the forms, there is a strict protocol
which must be followed. Nancy Dalverny is available to take your completed copies (along with a check for $20 to purchase the two money orders)
to Senator Brewster's office for secure and safe processing to Harrisburg. Also, once you receive the State Police form, it (the original form) must
be given to Nancy to be included with the second mailing of the Child Abuse form. Contact her with any questions at 412-373-0711 or
lednhd2@verizon.net. Thanks for your cooperation!

The model sessions at GAC are valuable opportunities to refine the skills of all artists. Observation of the human form translates to all other
areas of design and composition. In addition, Marcy Koynok diligently recruits interesting models each month which stimulate our desire to draw or
paint. Note: Models are clothed, costumed, or may be partially clothed, so that musculature can be observed and drawn.
Sessions are held on the fourth Monday of the month from 7:00 pm to 9:45. Model fee is $10.
Instructors: Please note that the "Class and Workshop Proposal Form - CWP Form" has replaced the former "Teacher Response Form".
If you are interested in teaching for the fall session, you may complete that form (found on the website or on file at GAC) and submit it
to the Education Committee. Thank you for your support! Reminder to All GAC Instructors and Volunteers: Pennsylvania law requires
clearance forms from those of you who teach, assist, or interactwith minors or have any possibility of that situation occurring. Those persons must
submit the Pennsylvania StatePolice Criminal History Record Information form and the Pennsylvania Child Abuse HistoryClearance forms ($10
each). Those involved may review further details on the website, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services at:
http://www.dhs.state.pa.us/findaform/childabusehistoryclearanceforms/index.htm.
The Education Committee is available to help you complete the required forms and guide you through the online clearance process. Contact
Nancy Dalverny at:lednhd2@verizon.net, 412-373-0711 (home), or 412-523-6686 (cell) for support and to schedule a date and time.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR NEW MONITORS !!! We have permanent monitors who take the same day every month...like the 1st. Tues. 10AM to
1PM or the 3rd Friday 1PM to 4PM. If a monitor does not want to commit to a certain day every month, I put them on the "fill-in " list and call each
of them every month to see which of the remaining days they are willing to take. Once in awhile, a permanent monitor is unable to take his/her
shift so I see if any of the other permanent monitors are willing to trade. If that is not possible, I contact the monitors on the "fill in" list to see if any
of them can take that shift. The permanent monitors have signed up for one, two or three shifts a month. Some of the "fill in" monitors also sign up
for more than one day, though most do a single shift....which is fine. I am presently training new monitors to share the work, since some of the
regulars have had to quit due to health problems, or are unavailable for a month or two at a time.
The monitors are the members who keep GAC open on a day to day basis! Let me know which days you are available for training and we'll get
you scheduled. Thanks for being willing to help. Alice
“Picture this at the Library” program, at joint venture between the Greensburg Art Club and the Greensburg-Hempfield Library currently is
sponsoring the an exhibit by Susan White and her granddaughter, Morgan Williams. The exhibit runs until August 26, 2015. Please stop into view
the amazing artwork on the library walls. Upcoming exhibition: The joint program is proud to announce the fourth exciting exhibit for the 2015
season. Artist Renie Pollock’s artwork will grace the library walls from September 10 through November 11, 2015.
Opening reception: Friday, September 11, 2015 from 6-8 PM. The public is invited.
Is your life worth $1000? The Development Committee has secured a small grant for $250 to help secure an AED ( Automated External
Defibrillator ) for the Art Club. We will be researching other options for the purchase of the AED. As we all know, securing funds from agencies is
becoming very difficult, so as always we will be asking for donations. The number of sudden Heart Attacks is on the rise and getting help
immediately can save a life of one of our members, students or visitors. We realize that we do not want to think negatively or to wish anyone ill
will. Being prepared is a priority!! The total cost will probably be around $1500, which would include the AED machine, battery back-up, additional
adult pads and maintenance. Training would also be required and hopefully we can secure this locally. Your feedback is certainly welcomed and
you will be hearing more about this goal as the months go by.
Purchase a unique keepsake designed by The Cat’s Meow. This miniature wooden replica measures 3 ¼” H x 6

A procedure has been put into place for rental of the classroom walls. This procedure consists of a Sign-up Sheet (on the bulletin board in the

of this information when considering displaying artwork in the future. Sincerely, Jackie Moreno.
