Meeting Minutes 3/11/11
Present: Noella Fath-Cutter (Elk River), Sarah Heyer (Westtonka), Carrie Dobie (Prior Lake-Savage),
Amy Skare (Stillwater), Jeremiah Mack (Big Lake), Deb Skogheim (Wayzata), Debbie Slomkowski
(Wayzata), Avalon Olson (Princeton), Tobi Tombers (Eastern Carver County), Krista Polsun
(Bloomington), Cyndi Arneson (Roseville), Jennifer Connolly (Forest Lake), Lisa Walker (Hopkins),

I.
Introductions and Program sharing
A few highlights included;
 Roseville- changing the way they market and offer programming so that all youth
programs are marketed and offered in conjunction
 Hopkins- will have two sites running food programs this summer. Also doing
leadership programming for older kids within the SAC program.
 Princeton- piggybacking on Senior Prom. Will be doing a dance for younger students
using prom decorations from the Grand March.
 Wayzata- adding Middle School Youth Enrichment programming this summer (hasn’t
done this in the past)
 Eastern Carver County- Super Saturday enrichment classes have been very successful
 Northfield- Family Movie Nights in auditorium (Northfield has no movie theatre)
 Elk River- Working with Children’s Cultural Connection (pen pal and video- connection
with kids in Afghanistan). Also partnering with the United Way on offering some
Middle School programs
 Westonka- Adding Middle School programming as well- all day program under the SAC
umbrella (week-long enrichment classes as well) Called Grand Finale
II.
Legislative Updates- Jeremiah Mack
A. Minnesota has a 5 billion dollar deficit.
B. Governor has proposed a budget that includes taxes on the wealthy and cuts
C. The House and the Senate have come out with their budget and includes only cuts
D. Biggest cuts are to health and human services and cuts to local government
Impacts to Community Ed
 At this point the Senate’s budget includes stripping out School Readiness
funding.
 Also a proposal that would change the requirement that districts under 10,000
would not have to have a licensed Community Ed director. MCEA stands
against this.

Presentation by Krista Polsun- Talked to us about Middle School programming in
Bloomington (Galaxy, Summer of Service, Sparks programming)
VI.
Annette Sallman presented some information from Youth Community Connections and
their vision about Expanded Learning Opportunities for youth in MN.
Our next CEYDLC meeting is May 6
