Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement for Internet Access
1. Purpose
Aspire Public Schools is pleased to provide network services to support its instructional program and to
further student learning. Students, faculty, staff and administration will have the opportunity to access
educational resources, to present information, and to work collaboratively with peers and experts
internationally. The network facilities are to be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical, and legal
manner.
***Please read each section below and initial each statement. Keep one copy for your records and
return the signed & initaled copy to your child’s teacher.
***If you require assistance in reading or understanding this legally binding document, please see your
child’s teacher or a representative in the main office.
2. Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement
These services are provided as a privilege to the user. This Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement
provides an opportunity to educate the user on the school’s expectations and the responsibilities of the
user. Each student and his/her parent/guardian shall sign and return this document in order to use the
school’s on-line resources.

without my signed statement below.
3. Access
As part of Aspire Public Schools’ educational program, users will have the opportunity to use networked
computers, which are connected to the Internet, email, and personal and shared folders. While Aspire
Public Schools uses a “filter” provided by an a local school district or an outside provider to help
prevent the accessing of inappropriate content and websites, Aspire Public Schools cannot guarantee the
accuracy of the information or the appropriateness of any material that a user may encounter.
_____________I understand that my child will be able to access many internet sites while at school. I
understand that Aspire has taken many precautionary measures to restrict inappropriate content for my
child. I understand that there may be inappropriate sites that get through the filter, but that my child has
explicit instructions to close the web browser and notify a teacher if this happens.
4. Supervision
Teachers shall supervise students while using on-line services at the school site, and may have
instructional assistants and student aides assist in this supervision. While teachers shall make their best
effort to ensure that students are supervised while using on-line services, Aspire Public Schools cannot
guarantee that students will be supervised at all times while using these on-line services. The principal
or designee shall oversee the maintenance of each school’s technological
resources and may establish guidelines and limits on their use.

_____________I understand that if my child access password-protected school sites at home that it is
my responsibility to monitor my child’s use of the internet. I must be present (in the same room, within
eyesight) with her/him while he/she is on-line at home.
5. User Responsibilities
Users must:
 Use the network in accordance with the school’s code of conduct.
 Cite sources of information properly. Users must obtain the author’s permission before
placing copyrighted material on the system and may download copyrighted material for
their own use only.
 Use the network only for purposes related to education. Commercial, political, and/or
personal use unrelated to an educational purpose is strictly prohibited.
 Be courteous and respectful in their messages to others.
 Use appropriate language.

at home.
Users are prohibited from:
 Accessing, posting, submitting, publishing or displaying harmful matter or material that
is threatening, obscene, disruptive or sexually explicit, or that could be construed as
harassment or disparagement of others based on their race, national origin, sex, sexual
orientation, age, disability, religion or political beliefs.
 Degrading or disrupting equipment or system performance. Vandalism will result in the
cancellation of user privileges and will be viewed as criminal activity under applicable
state and federal law. Vandalism includes the intentional uploading, downloading or
creating of computer viruses and/or any malicious attempt to harm or destroy school
equipment or materials or the data of any other user.
 Using the system to encourage the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco, nor shall they
promote unethical practices of any activity prohibited by law or school policy.
 Changing the data or trespassing into the account of another user. Users shall not read
other users’ mail or files, attempt to interfere with other users’ ability to send or receive
email, nor shall they attempt to read, delete, copy, modify or forge other users’ mail.
 Gaining unauthorized access to resources or entities.

home, that my child’s technology privileges may be revoked and both my child and I will be held legally
responsibly, where applicable.
6. Personal Safety
Users are expected to:
 Use only their account and password and keep their password private. Report to a teacher or
administrator any unsolicited email, security problems, or information that makes them
uncomfortable.
 Recognize that email and computer files are not guaranteed to be private. Aspire Public Schools
will make reasonable efforts to protect the electronic files of every user. However, a user’s files
may be reviewed, collected, and/or used by Aspire Public Schools: (a) as required by law, (b) as
part of system maintenance activity, (c) when there is reason to believe an account is being used
improperly or illegally, or (d) with the permission of the account holder.
 Use the school address and phone number only. Students should never reveal their image with
their name, their home address or phone numbers, or the home address or telephone numbers of
other students or Aspire community members.

they will not share their personal information or passwords with anyone.
_____________I understand that if my child does not uphold this expectation, his/her technology
privileges may be revoked and my child and I will be held legally responsible, where applicable.
7. Inappropriate Use
Each user is held responsible for his or her actions and activity on the network. Unacceptable uses of the
network will result in the suspension or revoking of these privileges. The principal or designee shall
make all decisions regarding whether or not a user has violated these regulations and may deny, revoke
or suspend a user’s access at any time. The decision of the principal or designee shall be final.

suspension, expulsion, or legal action, where appropriate.
Addition: Monarch Academy’s Policy on CYBER BULLYING
Cyber bullying has been defined as, “the use of electronic means by a minor to torment, threaten,
harass, humiliate, embarrass or otherwise target another minor.” According to Wikipedia, cyber
bullying “occurs when a child, a preteen or teenager is bullied, harassed, humiliated, threatened,
embarrassed or targeted in someway by another child, preteen or teen using text messaging,
email, instant messaging, or any other type of digital technology.”
There is a zero tolerance policy for cyber bullying at Monarch Academy. This zero tolerance includes
bullying by Monarch Academy students which happens on home computers outside of school hours.
Any time a clear connection is made that a student has been involved in cyber bullying, the perpetrator
will be suspended from school for up to five (5) full days. Additionally, the student will be required to
return to school on a contract and may lose all computer privileges and other activities at the school.

technology privileges and both my child and I will be held legally responsible, where applicable.
8. Consent
As the parent or legal guardian of the minor student signing below, I grant permission for my son or
daughter to use school-networked computers.
I have read and agree to XXXXX Public Schools’ Student Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement for
Internet Access. I understand that XXXXX Public Schools cannot guarantee the accuracy or
appropriateness of information or material that my child may encounter on the Internet. The
undersigned agrees to discharge and hold harmless XXXXX Public Schools, its officers, trustees and
employees from any and all claims, liabilities, demands, causes of action, costs, expenses or obligations
of any kind, known and unknown, arising out of or in any way relating to a student’s use of or access to
the school-networked computers. I understand that violations of this Acceptable Use Policy and
Agreement may result in the loss of account privileges, as well as other disciplinary and/or legal action.

I DO NOT agree to XXXXX Public Schools’ Student Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement for Internet
Access. I DO NOT want my child to participate in on-line learning opportunities at school. I
understand that this will mean limited access to learning materials. I also understand that this may
mean my child will be excluded from the classroom during regular technology-infused learning
experiences.
