INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP DELEGATION GRANTS
UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST – CAPE COAST, GHANA: MARCH 2015
(Application Deadline: November 1, 2014)
The 2014-15 International Partnership Delegation Grants are intended to fund participation by GVSU
faculty and staff on an interdisciplinary team visit to a partner institution. The delegation will spend time
on the partner’s campus, learning about many aspects of that university’s host city, nation, and culture.
Together, they will seek new perspectives from counterparts at the host institution that can be brought
back to GVSU to share with our own campus community.
We are looking for a diverse team comprised of full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, or affiliates), AP
staff, and COT or Maintenance staff. The committee charged with selection of the team members will
also take into consideration the desires and needs of the host institution, and may give preference to
individuals at GVSU who have had limited opportunities for overseas travel. Five individuals will be
selected to participate in the 2015 delegation.
The 2015 Trip: Ghana
Located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, Cape Coast, Ghana is known to be one of the most
historically significant towns in West Africa. Cape Coast, and nearby Elmina, offers a contrast of lively
street markets, UNESCO world heritage sites, excellent educational institutions, and beautiful coastal
beaches, set along the backdrop of a laid back fishing village. Having gained its independence back in
1957, this young democratic nation is among Africa’s most stable, and economically thriving countries.
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is one of Ghana’s premier public universities with Faculties of Arts,
Education, Law, and Social Sciences, and Schools of Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Business,
Graduate Studies and Research, Medical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. The University was founded in
1962 as a teacher training college, and has since expanded to be a large, comprehensive university that
enrolls more than 15,000 undergraduate students, as well as many graduate and distant learning students.
UCC offers a vibrant campus community, excellent educational programs, and a warm, welcoming
environment.
Grand Valley has been partnered with the University of Cape Coast (UCC) since 2002. Since that time,
Ghana has become one of GVSU’s most popular study abroad destinations, ranking the 3rd highest. The
partnership between our institutions continues to emphasize the importance of meaningful educational
exchange through a variety of short and long-term opportunities, with a strong emphasis on supporting
semester and yearlong exchanges. To learn more about UCC visit: www.ucc.edu.gh
