Reading Tasks
Seven activities which promote the development of Reading
and Understanding skills.
1. Read the book to the class, in groups, in pairs per page
etc! Ask and answer questions in English to show
understanding; reference can be made to ‘English
Questions worksheet (found in Reading tasks folder)
2. Use the ‘Book to Read by Numbers’ Powerpoint (found in
Copies of the book folder) and follow the ‘Reading by
Numbers’ Word document (found in Reading Tasks
folder).
3. Use snail character to revise preposition vocabulary.
4. Play domino games for idioms, story comprehension,
adjectives (all can be found in Reading Tasks folder and
are Word documents for printing out)
5. Play matching game which can be cut up into segments
according to ability (print out ‘Question and Answer
Matching Game Past Tense’ Word document found in
Reading Task Folder).
6. Alter words within the text: use ‘Book with words for
Altering’ Word document either on PCs, on IWB as a class
or as a paper tasks by printing out (file can be found in
Copies of Book folder)
7. Use paper copies of ‘Book - words only’ (can be found in
Reading Tasks Folder) for pupils to read text and
complete a drawing to match the text.
