NEW ARCHBISHOP Over the summer a new Archbishop for Glasgow
has been appointed; Philip Tartaglia, presently bishop of Paisley, will be
installed in his new job on Saturday 8th September in St Andrew’s
Cathedral. We can give two tickets to those who’d like to represent Holy
Name Parish. Let us know before Tuesday, and if more ask we’ll have a
draw. Note that there’s a lot of coverage of him
and his early family days in this month’s Flourish.
ASSUMPTION On Wednesday we celebrate the
solemnity of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven, Body
and Soul. It’s a day of Obligation, so Masses are
offered at 10am and 6.30pm.
COLUMBAN SISTERS
Sr Maureen,
who appealed to us last week on behalf of her
congregation, has written to thank you for the £610
you gave. “Thank all the parishioners for the
cheque and very generous response to the appeal.
It’s not easy to fit all the collections in but
it’s great to meet people and renew aquaintances. I
liked the card with a photo of the Boys (chapel
house cats); they pose so well! Thanks for the
support and encouragement. With gratitude and
prayers.”
by the Scottish Bishops for a Focus on Marriage and Family
Life. So it’s next Sunday they come. Clothing and bedding are
welcome; they got £73,000 from this; and in their raffle they
collared £160,000. Two black poly bags filled with textiles
could generate enough funds to feed a child in Malawi FOR A
YEAR (approx £7). And currently they are feeding over 600,000
children world-wide. The van will collect after the Sunday
morning Masses (19th August); they cannot accept bric-a-brac,
nor collect in the evening.
And SCIAF; take a large update leaflet from the rack on
news, and where the money goes in fundraising or in
campaigning.
LOCAL BUS A few weeks ago we said that our local bus
29 was not only continuing but being increased.
Largely true but it’s a bit complicated. Best to get
a timetable leaflet (there’s one on noticeboard) or
ask us for a copy. The extra buses run from Hillpark.
CROSS-FIX Look at the wall near the statue of Our
Lady and you’ll see a crucifix. It was brought back
to us by a parishioner on holiday in Mexico and she
thought we’d like it. A cross is a cross, and a
crucifix has the figure of the
Lord on it. Since this as a bit of
both we’re calling it a ‘Crossfix’.
R.I.P. Your prayers are asked for those who died since our last
bulletin;

‘Jesus said; ‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever. ‘ (From today’s gospel.)
Last month two priests died too. Many will remember Canon John
Brannan, who often came to Holy Name when Canon Kelly was on
holiday. And Fr Ronnie Mitchell, a Montford Father, was one of the two
priests who gave us our parish mission four years ago.
MARY’S MEALS We were due to have the annual Mary’s Meals
appeal in two weeks time but that particular day is earmarked

GIFT AID Some of you use Gift Aid with a book
of green envelopes. So each should have a number
we know. But we don’t! At least, not since the
new books of envelopes from April. So we ask you
to tell us if you have any of the following
numbers (after the April new set); 11, 17, 20,
28, And if you’re not using Gift Aid, why not?
If you are paying tax then it’s a way of
lawfully regaining that tax for the church or
charity you choose. Ask about it; it’s only a
signature really.
