Job Title:
Arts Programme Producer
Hours:
Part time (3 days a week, 22.5 hours per week)

JOB PURPOSE
To work with the Director to lead the delivery of the KWMC arts programme. To work with the
team to build an innovative arts programme based on principles of excellence, inclusion,
diversity and community engagement. To embed the arts programme in all aspects of
KWMC’s work including the digital inclusion, environmental and young peoples’ projects that
KWMC delivers.
To support the development of the programme through building relationships with artists and
cultural organisations, bringing a greater understanding of the wide range of different arts
practices to the organisation and community.
The role will include collaboration and ensuring that the community are engaged in the
development of the programme.
3.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable to the Director and KWMC Trustees.
4. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To work with the Director to curate, develop and ensure the delivery of the KWMC arts
programme.
To involve the team and a wide range of partners and collaborators in all aspects of the
programme.
To manage resources and budgets that relate to the arts programme
To work closely with staff to ensure excellent marketing of the programme.
To ensure that KWMC produces an innovative, exciting programme for the community of
Knowle West and beyond, that has local relevance, and contributes to national discussion
about the role and value of arts in society.
To ensure KWMC continues to promote critical analysis and deep understanding of socially
engaged arts practices.
To research and build relationships with a range of artists and cultural organisations with

whom KWMC might work.
To plan and ensure the production of the exhibitions and talks contained within the arts
programme.
To work with the Director to plan artists’ residencies, and manage the recruitment of artists,
including overseeing contracts.
To plan a programme of development and support for artists, associates and the team.
To lead on the planning and delivery of arts events, including conferences.
To manage staff as appropriate.
To maintain and develop strong links with the community through planning appropriate
projects.
To fundraise for the arts programme.
To monitor progress, and work with staff on the evaluation of project outcomes, and regular
reports to funders.
To produce internal and external reports as required.
To be adaptable and flexible in order to meet the needs of the job.

KEY RESULT AREAS
The delivery of an excellent high profile arts programme.
Timely completion of projects, to a very high standard and within the context of KWMC mission
statement and ethos.
The development of a sustainable programme demonstrating excellent fiscal management of
the arts programme.
The staff team, associates and artists are supported, and that this contributes to ensuring a
vibrant working environment and community where exciting, innovative, risk taking art projects
take place.
An ethos of criticality and reflexive learning is embedded to ensure that the arts programme is
never dull.
6.
COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The organisations that this post will be required to communicate with are very diverse;
including local and national statutory and voluntary organisations, charitable trusts, nongovernmental organisations, and the private sector.
Communication includes the following:

Strategic planning to meet local needs, negotiations regarding contracts, quality
standards and monitoring outcomes.
Strategic issues relating to inter-agency working, planning, policy development and
implementation, financial allocations.
All issues relating to digital media arts at a local and national level
Press/media liaison.
In addition the post holder must communicate with local residents, building their capacity to
participate and become involved in the management and delivery of the project.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Arts Programme Producer
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Post graduate qualification in Art and Media field or equivalent experience equating to at
least 5 years or more experience of managing complex arts projects.
High level of skills and experience in project management, planning and organising
multiple tasks.
Knowledge of the debates around contemporary, digital and socially engaged arts
practices.
Able to motivate and interact with people at all levels, and from a wide range of cultural,
voluntary and statutory organisations, and with local people.
A track record of devising strategies for engaging a wide range of people in arts.
Demonstrable curatorial skills in a range of settings.
Experience of managing artists and large-scale arts projects.
Experience of producing events including artists’ talks and conferences.
Effective in working with funders including trusts, foundations and public funding bodies.
Track record of successful fundraising for arts projects.
Highly effective communicator and able to write clearly to meet a range of requirements
e.g. fundraising, reports advocacy, training.
Established skills in partnership working.
Able to be self-motivated, use initiative and work to tight deadlines.
Experience and skills in budget management to include setting and monitoring budgets.
Ability to manage staff so that KWMC has an effective and highly motivated team.
Experience of research, monitoring and evaluation.
Desirable

4. Experience of regeneration and community development in relation to the arts.
