Housing New Zealand Update: Repair Programme for 212 Houses Following the sequence of major earthquakes, Housing New Zealand initiated its first repair programme of 212 houses in greater Christchurch, to be completed by 31 October 2012. The programme is on target to meet its deadline. As houses are completed, they are retenanted. Houses were identified as suitable for repair (as opposed to houses that were more severely damaged and therefore likely to be demolished). A scope of works was undertaken to look at what was required. This included: Tiled roofs replaced with long-run colorsteel. Brick chimneys removed to ceiling level. Lathe & plaster internal walls replaced with gib-board where lathe & plaster is deemed to be beyond repair. Land re-levelled particularly in areas where liquefaction had created problems. Drainage repairs including sewerage and storm water. Internal and external redecorating. Reviewing and replacing damaged inter-tenancy walls to comply with fire regulations. Reseeding lawns where applicable. Checking electric wiring. Heating reinstated as required. Of the 212 houses, one is in Kaiapoi, the remainder are in Christchurch. 1 Progress Table: Suburb Number Not 10% 15% 30% 2 1 2 65% 80% 98% Aranui 42 Avondale 1 Avonside 25 3 Bromley 5 3 Broomfield 1 Bryndwr 21 43 Burwood 7 4 ChCh Central 3 1 Edgeware 1 1 Heathcote Valley 1 1 Hoon Hay 1 Hornby 4 2 2 Ilam 2 1 1 Kaiapoi 1 1 Linwood 5 3 1 1 Mairehau 8 1 6 New Brighton 5 Northcote 1 1 Opawa 3 3 Papanui 1 1 Parklands 12 Phillipstown 2 Redwood 2 Riccarton 2 Richmond 5 3 St Martins 7 2 Shirley 16 6 Somerfield 2 1 Sth New Brighton 2 Spreydon 6 Strowan 3 3 Sumner 1 1 Upper Riccarton 3 1 Wainoni 1 1 Woolston 10 2 Total 212 49 Started 5 Houses Finished 1 33 1 1 1 20 2 1 1 1 16 1 2 2 1 1 4 2 1 1 9 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 4 2 8 1 2 2 4 2 8 5 4 4 1 53 8 138 2 3
