1 day Master Class
Cognitive Neuroscience of Mindfulness
6th September 2013
One-day master-classes and workshops led by members of our core team and visiting
teachers – all are acknowledged experts within the field of mindfulness-based teaching,
training and research
These one-day workshops offer continuing professional development in teaching and/or
researching MBSR /MBCT/specialist areas of applied mindfulness training. They will interest
mindfulness teachers, researchers and clinicians as well as those wishing to find out more
about recent developments in their field of interest.
Cognitive Neuroscience of Mindfulness
The class will provide an introduction to current research into changes in mind and brain
resulting from mindfulness practice and related meditation practices.
As part of the class, participants will be introduced to the pros and cons of the most common
techniques used in cognitive neuroscience of mindfulness, namely, electrophysiology and
magnetic resonance imaging. The class will review research evidence in the field with a
particular focus on changes in attention, cognitive control and emotion regulation. We will
discuss relevance of this research to the therapeutic use of mindfulness and applications of
mindfulness in areas such as well-being enhancement, education and workplace. Finally, the
class will include a review of latest research in cognitive neuroscience of mindfulness
conducted at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, School of Psychology,
Bangor University.
This class is intended for professionals working with mindfulness, or interested in
mindfulness, who would like to learn more about the brain science behind mindfulness and
meditation from a researcher active in the field. The class will be particularly relevant to
those applying mindfulness in healthcare and educational contexts.
The material will be presented in a manner accessible to non-experts.

The Trainer
Dusana Dorjee, Ph.D. is a research coordinator and lecturer at the Centre for Mindfulness
Research and Practice, School of Psychology, Bangor University. She is a cognitive
neuroscientist with long-term interest in effects of meditation on mind and brain. Dusana's
research investigates the impact of mindfulness training on systems of cognitive control,
emotion regulation and conceptual processing in relation to well-being.
Dusana is particularly interested in possible preventive effects of mindfulness on mental and
physical health in children and adolescents, and believes that research in cognitive
neuroscience of mindfulness can make a useful contribution to education. Dusana's
research uses a combination of behavioural, self-report and electrophysiological methods,
mainly event-related brain potentials (ERPs). Dusana has been practicing meditation since
2000 and started leading meditation groups in 2005.
