ROLE PROFILE
TITLE: Medical Doctor (Hospital)
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Health and Nutrition
LOCATION: Bouar, CAR
GRADE: TBC
CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 months
CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a
week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in
country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing
the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Doctor in charge of Nutritional Stabilization Center within hospitals supported by Save the Children
International (SCI) ensures that quality care is provided to patients admitted in hospitals supported by Save
the Children.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Health and Nutrition medical Coordinator.
Dimensions : Save the Children has opened an office in CAR since the acute phase of armed conflict in
December 2013 to the response of humanitarian health, nutrition and child protection services funded by
ECHO in the prefectures of Bangui, Nana Grebizi and Ouaka . After the fusion between Save the Children
and Merlin since 1 March 2014 , the presence of Save the Children has increased in CAR with the
continuation of all Merlin’s projects in the prefectures of Basse- Kotto , Haut Mbomou , Mbomou and
Nana-Mambéré

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Medical program (65%)












Participate in the management of pediatric emergencies (including management of severe acute
malnutrition with complications), and obstetric medical and surgical cases transferred by health
centers.
In collaboration with the medical director of the hospital, overseeing the quality of care provided
by the medical and nursing staff.
Identify staff training needs, propose a training plan and participate actively in its implementation.
Organize ward round of patients admitted (pediatrics / stabilization unit, maternity, postoperative).
Organize and provide the technical evaluation of all staff and ensure files are available for better
record.
Ensure the functionality of the system of reference and counter- reference and improve it if
necessary.
Ensure that Health systems strengthening strategies are applied in all health facilities supported
by SCI
Ensure policies are implemented for the prevention and control of nosocomial infections.
Follow up of laboratory activities in all supported hospitals.
Ensure that in all medical activity and service provided, the confidentiality for patients is centered
at all levels of intervention.
Ensure that medical records are complete and well maintained.
Work closely with the hospital's Chief Medical Officer for team organization and management of
different care units.

Participate in the collection, analysis and transmission of medical and nutritional data
Ensure the quality of data collected in the hospital
Participate in the drafting of monthly activity reports
Participate in the management and implementation of monitoring tools
Represent Save the Children in meetings with hospital management committee

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential











DATE
Medical Doctor from a recognized university with proven experience in the clinical management
of pediatric in emergency, obstetric and medical- surgical
Proven experience in the medical management of severe acute malnutrition with complications
Proven experience in the management of HIV services and people living with HIV
Excellent organizational skills of care teams
Experience in monitoring and evaluation of health interventions
Demonstrated experience in coaching and training
At least 2 year of professional experience in health in humanitarian contexts / armed conflict
Excellent command of spoken and written French and good command of English (an added value)
Familiar and respectful of humanitarian principles
Ability to work in unstable environments with rudimentary living conditions
Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead train and motivate staff.

Willingness to travel regularly and in difficult circumstances.

Previous knowledge or experience of CAR
Experience in the clinical management of survivors of sexual violence
Having already worked with Save the Children will be a plus.
