Purpose
This unit standard is for people who are currently working, or who intend to
work, in jobs which involve the issue, control and storage of fruit and
vegetable crop storage containers.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: use safe work practices
and procedures while issuing, controlling and storing; issue; and control and
store, crop storage containers.

Definitions
Organisational procedures refer to documents that include: worksite rules, codes,
and practices; equipment operating instructions; production specifications;
documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements.
PPE refers to personal protective equipment and may include but is not limited to:
protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses/headwear/footwear, hearing protection,
safety devices.
Shut down refers to stopping machine operation, disassembly, cleaning and
sanitising of machine parts and/or equipment.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Use safe work practices and procedures while issuing, controlling and storing crop storage
containers.
Performance criteria
1.1
PPE is used in accordance with organisational procedures.
1.2
Work environment is clean and free from hazards in accordance with
organisational procedures.
Range
1.3

Documentation is completed in accordance with organisational procedures.
Element 2
Issue crop storage containers.
Performance criteria
2.1
Crop storage containers are available in sufficient quantity for scheduled and
anticipated grower demand.
2.2
Crop storage containers are available in a condition suitable for intended
purpose and meet organisational procedures.
Range
condition – sound, complete, capable of storing intended load.
2.3
Crop storage containers have clear and visible owner identification on exterior.
2.4
Storage containers are issued to authorised growers in a number sufficient to
meet their needs.
2.5
Crop storage containers are issued clean and free from contamination.

Issue of crop storage containers complies with organisational procedures, and
legislation.

Performance criteria
3.1
Recycling of crop storage containers is optimised in accordance with
organisational procedures.
3.2
Costs associated with hireage and maintenance of crop storage containers are
minimised.
3.3
Unacceptable variations in condition of crop storage containers are identified,
and corrective action is taken within a time-frame that optimises container
availability.
3.4
Use of crop storage containers out of season is minimised.
3.5
Crop storage containers are stored in a safe manner that optimises use of
available space.
3.6
Control and storage of crop storage containers comply with organisational
procedures, and legislation.
3.7
Current records of crop storage container use and location are maintained in
agreed format and place.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
