Literary Terms/Plot Elements - Buried Onions
For each question, copy down the quote(s) and page number.
EACH quote must be complete and each example must be from a
different part/scene from the novel. Each quote should be
accompanied by a “thoughtful” illustration.**For those of you who
have difficulty with math, that is 16 separate quotes and 16
separate illustrations.
1. Find at least three quotes that show "setting" in the novel.
2. Find at least one example of "magical realism" in the novel.
3. Find at least three examples of "figurative language" in the novel.
4. Find at least two examples of "direct characterization" from the
novel.
5. Find at least two examples of "indirect characterization" from the
novel.
6. Find at least two examples of "imagery" from the novel.
7. Find at least two examples of "symbolism" from the novel
(CANNOT be the onion).
8. Finally page should be a quote from the novel that MOST
RESONATED to you as a very TRUE statement. Copy the quote
in its entirety and illustrate the scene. In a short paragraph,
explain why the quote is so meaningful and how your illustration
relates to the quote.
