DESCRIPTION OF CURRENT SITUATION
1. MEDICAL CLINICAL EXAM
a) condition of animals, overall, mares and stallions and nurturing condition of the foals is
extremely bad due to insuficient and inappropriate food.
b) Hoof conditon – bad due to unadequate conditions of housing ( sanitary conditions are
on the lowest level possible, lots of dump and humidity as well as horse excrement in the
bedding material that has been layed down in a very thin layer only on few places or is
completely missing.
c) many animals show sympthomes of respiratory problems.
d) According to the quality of hair and tail condition as well as mild swelling of abdomen,
it points out that we can suspect that animals are infected with endoparasites.
e) many animals are covered with ektoparasites (ticks)
f) horses are due to exaustion and famine apathic and do not show what is typical for them,
their curiousity.
Special remark:
ALARMING is health condition of the total number of foals that are of age from 10 days to 3
months. Due to insufficient and unadequate food that lactating mares have it is not possible to expect
survival and growth of foals. The foals are due to starvation and poor milk quality exausted and have
poor immunity. Out of 11 foals that we found during our visit on 3rd May 2008 we found today only 9
foals, 3 foals out of these 9 show signs of imperilled vital functions without any chance for recovery.
There are no desinfection barriers on the farm and it presents direct danger of infection for both
employed people and animals .
FOOD SUPPLY:



hay bales on the farm are of high risk for use due to presence of high percentage of mold and
humidity.
we noticed that traces of energy meals do not exist (oat meals)
water supply is unadequate, there are few buckets with water put on few places.
STABLE CONDITION:
During visit we he have assesed that out of 4 buildings on the farm , 2 buildings cannot be used to due
complete deterioration and because parts of buildings have collapsed.
One building is partly used (5 horses were found there) and its capacity is 70 horses.
One building's capacity is fully used but the building is damaged ( roof is damaged, windows are
broken and doors are falling apart) and it causes constant presence of draft wind that affects in
negative way the health of adult horses as well as foals.
Daylight presence as well as air flow withing object are acceptable.
Artificial light is absolutely unadequate and insufficient.
CONCLUSION:
To improve health conditions of the animals it is urgent to apply following measures:
Phase I
1. gradual improvement of horse conditions with feeding using the adequate food, adequate
in its composition as well in its amoount and treatment against endo and ecto parasites is
a must as well as use of vitamin supplements.
2. Laboratory exam of blood of all horses, and vaccination (Maleus)
3. Individual treatment of horses as per sympthomes found.
4. Hoof cuting.
5. Additional food must be provided for the foals, energy adequate food.
6. Create conditions that would respect sanitary standards , it is needed for improvement of
overall health condition of horses.
To acomplish goals from phase 1 we need urgently for 90 horses, of which 9 are foals:
-
Adeqate food that is microbiologically good and in amounts that are required.
For medical treatment:
- Pastes against endoparasites ( for repeated treatment 2x )
 Multivit for horses ( lactating mares, stallions and foals)
 Individual therapies as per clinical condition of each animal.
 Anti -thetanus serum for horses.
 Piroplasmosis protection.
 Iodine Povidon solution.
 Means for sanitary treatment of horses : brushes, knives for hooves, shampoos etc.
 Disposable materials needles 0.9 mm, syringes 2 ml, 5 ml, 10 ml, 20 ml.
 Protection suits and gloves for people who will work with horses.
PHASE 2
1. With continuation of the adequate feeding all vaccinations must be done ( influenza, P, B,
herpes etc.) Vaccine : for DODGE.
2. Creating catalog , adequate marking of all horses and creating database of health charts in
accordance with all modern standards.
We need:
-
Vaccines (amount 1,5 X)
Buildings: It is urgent to do as follows:






Complete cleaning and desinfecting the interiours of stables.
Making the desinfection barriers.
Establishing the feeding system and water supply.
Repairs to roof, doors, window frames and to other damages.
Establishing horse release pathways within stables.
Providing the adequate storage room for food ( hay and grains)
Requirements are:
-
Means for desinfection of stables and for desinfection barriers.

Adequate material for bedding.

Construction materials ( boards, planks, glass for windows, wood for horse
pathways and corridors and various iron made parts, tools , hand pushed cart,
agricultural tools like rakes, forks, spades etc...)
CONCLUSION:
It is concluded that an urgent action is needed in order to save lives of animals
and to be able to create health and overall condition recovery of horses. There must be
NO DELAY or POSTPONING and most imperilled are the foals.
To provide as soon as possible adequate sanitary conditions, recovery is not
possible without it.
It is needed to provide adequate workers who will on daily basis take care of
horses, workers that will clean up the farm as well as trained veterinary team that will
constantly, intensively work on recovery of horses.
For all this to be sucessfully undertaken we need to provide all the means
necessary and to collect materials as well as constant monitoring over the achieving of
all the goals that are set by the project.
