‘ART AND WAR AT SEA’ ROYAL MARITIME CLUB PORTSMOUTH AND HMS NELSON
SATURDAY 7th NOVEMBER
A major authoritative book ‘Art and the War at Sea’ is due to be published by the National Maritime Museum later
this year and there will be a linking FRNM event at the Royal Maritime Club in Portsmouth (B&B available). As well
as a local speaker there will be contributions from NMM art curators. The day will focus especially on William Wyllie
- his contribution to maritime art, his life in Portsmouth and why his ‘star is perhaps not yet fully risen’. At the end
of the day there will be a visit to HMS Nelson, a short walk from the RMC, where we will have the privilege of having
tea in the splendid setting of the Wardroom, while we view paintings by Wyllie and other maritime artists.
